I wouldn't want to put together a kit fir a radio that costs as much as this will. Probably won't be worth the savings in kit form. Too many things that can go wrong in putting it together. It's not like a K2 or even a K3. A lot more sensitive components I am sure in a K4. I would hate to button...

There is a mic adapter cable that comes with the radio when new. It is a 6 pin mic connector on the radio. The adapter allows a 4 pin mic to be used.

I suspect that the display might be difficult to see in a mobile environment during daylight.

I have a 980 and the only thing that I don't like is that there is a slight "pop" noise to the squelch when going in and out that is annoying. It's more noticeable at a low volume. I would like to see more brightness in the display. There is only one color I like, a light blue. I don't care...

Maybe it just means he hasn't had much for ham gear. Sensitivity itself isn't much of a problem. Designing a quiet receiver is a bigger challenge.
