Yes. The crystal age is over!! It makes more sense ( if you just GOTTA have CB in your ham rig) to get a newer rig that is easy to mod. Just about everything in a newer rig is very worthwhile to have and worth the money.
Back in the late 60s when I was on CB a lot there were a couple people giving out SSB "callsigns".
I had SSB-2626 and Mercury 140. There were other groups of numbers as well. Apollo numbers were common.
I think they only loosely kept track of who had what number. Probably was just listed by what...
Some of the early sideband CB rigs were double sideband. It may have been a Tram Titan, or Titan 2? Neat old radios. I have never seen one in real life. Not even at a hamfest swapmeet.
As I recall, Johnson had one as well. I had a friend that had one of them in his car for a while. In those days if it looked like you had a mobile radiotelephone you'd be pretty cool...I guess..
Edit: Here ya go. Messenger 130A
Clearly he is implying using it on other radio service frequencies, not stuff like that.
I ran across a seller on Ebay that used a ham call for his Ebay ID. I asked him about it and he had no idea. It was just a ID name that meant something to him that happened to be a ham radio callsign. It was...
There is a law preventing the use of an issued callsign from one service in another.
It isn't in Part 95 or Part 97 but I did run across it once in the FCC regulations somewhere. Probably was in some administrative regs or something like that. I'd have to do some serious digging to find it again.
I see a lot of of that stuff, heatsinks, dead vhf amps with heatsinks etc, at ham radio swapmeets but there are no guarantees. Id put a want ad on QRZ.com or similar sites for a heat sink with the size you need which hopefully isn't critical.
Looks like a tube "walkie talkie" in a bigger box. Based on being channel 14 and a telescoping antenna (probably 60 inches) mount on the top. A rather unusual find!!
Nothing to bet or get excited about. It is just what I have heard about it. Some JA market rigs restricted to 50 watts for their license structure, maybe band restrictions. Could be some of that is common with rigs for the European market.
If it is working for you then that is really all that...
From what I have heard, sometimes with rigs setup for the Japanese market the power level may be restricted and/or the bands are not the same as the US versions with no way to change either.
In any event I would not buy a rig marketed to the Europe or Japanese markets.
I bought two fo them at a ham swapmeet some years ago. Both in very good condition. paid $30 for both and still have one of them. Still works.
Neat old radio!!
Old tube type Galaxy 5 ham transceiver. Not sure of the antenna(s). Looks like some multiband 10-80 meters vertical ham antenna. An old Butternut vertical maybe? An old 23 channel Cobra CB radio (maybe a Cobra 21) on top with an SWR bridge on top of that.
Lower pic is the matching speaker for...
Programming trunking systems can be a real chore! I am not familiar with the Whistler products but if they come with programming software it certainly helps.
Often, software that you purchase is far better and worth the cost. To use the software in the most easiest way, you usually need a paid...
In practical use, you use the squelch to quiet out the background noise. You can quiet out or squelch just the background white noise. If someone is there and kinda weak you don't want to listen to but still wait for your friend to show up or listen for others that are stronger in signal...
