Of course they say that. They want to sell you one!
"Better" in what way??
That's like walking into a fishing tackle shop and asking how the fishing has been. It is always GREAT!
They want to sell you a bunch of stuff!
Will it work? Yes it probably will. The big question is how WELL will it work for what you want to do and your expectations!
There is no way to know until you put it up and try it out for a while. That is pretty much true for any antenna installation. Put it up and see how it goes. You already...
I used to love getting Henshaw's and also some other catalogs back about 1969. I think Kris had a catalog I would get as well.
A lot of the cool stuff in the catalogs just wasn't to be found locally for sale so it was pretty "WOW!!" to see in the catalogs.
I have been a ham for almost 50 years now. I was on CB a lot for about two years before that.
I really enjoyed going to CB breaks (breakfast breaks) a handful of the locals had back then on Saturday mornings.Same with a group of hams in more recent years.
We used to have repeater group meetings...
I had an AL-811 for several years. With reasonable care in tuning it up you shouldn't have any problems. You can almost buy 2 sets of 811A tubes for the cost of the 572B tubes.
Only problem I had with the amp was it needed more padding capacitance on 80 meters. Easy fix.
I have an AL-80B now...
Even a Bird wattmeter with a good slug is plus or minus 5%. How accurate do they expect to get??
I have a friend that has one of the Alpha RF Systems wattmeters that cost about $1500 or so. It is somewhat better than 5% accuracy according to the specs.
A good powered peak reading wattmeter is...
The old tube amps like that were mostly bought in a time when CB base radios were tube rigs. The tube rigs were not as fussy about the input SWR and most tube rigs had a plate and load adjustment in the rear of the rig to maximize the output and adjust for some mismatch.
You might want to look...
Old thread but I have a couple comments.
I have had one for about 3 years now. Got it from Gigaparts for $450 shipped. A pretty good price at the time.I waited for a used one to show up on Ebay and QRZ.com but when they did the price was always too high, almost the same as a new one.
I like the...
I think I remember that being discussed before around here and that it is not factual. It would of course be illegal to manufacture and market them as new but there isn't any reason that an older 23 channel rig cannot still be used and of course a great many of them are sold privately as used...
One problem is getting the crystal(s) that you would need to do it. Hardly anyone makes them anymore and they are made to order now from what I understand. Around $30 each or so I believe from what I have read.
Still want to crystal up that old 5 channel Hallicrafters CB mobile? $300 please...
