I replaced the on/off/volume switch in a 1996 Cobra 29 SE with a donor part from a 1995 29 LTD. Someone put a dual concentric switch from a newer unit in and the thing stuck out worse than a sore thumb! Now the grill looks streamlined again!
Blast you sonoma....LOL I have watching the bay for...
I use GC Electronics Radio -TV Service Solvent to remove that stupid Sony Bond glue crap. It will soften it up then you can gently pick it away. It's about $40 shipped from eBay for a 16 fl oz. glass bottle and it should last a person a lifetime!
Just remember to put a small amount in a glass...
Alright, sonoma for the win! I still have a bit of testing to do and maybe try to find them parts on them interwebs.
The display lighting is a module 1 1/4" tall, 4 7/8" wide and 3/16" thick panel of acrylic like substance with semi clear white tape on each side. 5 wires of different colors...
I woke up to 19 AM just hammering my meter at an S9...... I thought it would have been a futile attempt to call out so.... I went on to re-fitting a new Molex power plug to this Colt Black Shadow 485 I have here.
I had an Imax 2000 get hit once. Blew the base apart right where the fiberglass meets the aluminum mount. The little yellow cover on the tip of the top section had a tiny 1/16" burn spot right in the center.
She then layed over on its side on top of my garage. Fiberglass splinters all over the...
I scored a cheap 29 LX from a truck driver at work. He claimed radio was working and lit up fine, then he heard a sizzle and radio shut down. Then he smelled the magic smoke.
OK.... can't loose for $10, even worth that in parts I thought. All protection diodes good yet no voltage to PCB...
OK, the PLL is a LC7132 and as far as I can tell the main board number is 4A1033 Rev. 5.
Yeah sunbulls, I have some pre-wired LEDs that I removed the 500 ohm dropping resistor and soldered a larger 1/2 watt directly to the main PCB. They always put that dropper right behind the LED body...
I bid on one of the black Grant XL's about a year ago.... I stopped at $290! I think it went for 430 or something close..... out of my league! It was pristine tho...
Very possible! The main board is a bit different layout than other gens. But still the same concepts. It does have 3 vertical boards that solder to the main PCB. VCO, IF-MOD and OP AMP.
The PLL is under some header pin wires and when I replaced 2 caps next to it I completely forgot to look at...
OK folks, I got this off of the bay because I have never seen or heard of one! Only thing wrong was meter light was out. Replaced that with a 5mm warm white LED. looks just like an incandescent now! Cool beans. Then I did a full recap just cuz I do not know the history of its use... hot/cold...
Mine is The 167, State of Iowa on both SSB/AM. At one time I belonged to 14 different CB radio clubs! Many different call numbers right there! My last active club I checked in with was Twin Rivers here in Iowa. Hence, the 167 as in TR167!
Outstanding! At one time, I had like 5 or 6 off em! Most I got with problems and repaired them. I only have 3 now...LOL
My original one I got, had the stupid "out of control volume" problem show up in the faceplate. Some enameled wire and a few cuss words later, (like 3yrs later), got it fixed...
