    Shutdown affecting licensing

Unless the FCC is collecting a fee for renewal, this probably worked just fine. I just tried to apply for a GMRS license during the shutdown and their site took all my info and everything, except it bombed out at the payment part. If there was no payment required, ULS probably would...

    Anybody use a Kenwood TM-V71A?

Yeah mine went in both directions no problem... got to be some kind of firmware or engineering change over time.

    Anybody use a Kenwood TM-V71A?

I'm guessing its some kind of firmware/revision issue, I just tested cband repeat in and out of the ham bands and its fine.... It's possible too they unlocked the radio some other way which botched the cband... you might want to check or post on mods.dk and see if anyone else has...

    Anybody use a Kenwood TM-V71A?

That's good to know, I will have to test crossband to see if it works, not that I use it a whole hell of a lot. I'd much rather have the extra freq range.

    Wonder what price will be..

It's too bad this radio didn't have 220 in it it would make it much more appealing.... or even if they offered a module or something... say one that did 220 and another for 900 mhz.

    Making of Kenwood TS-990

Never say never. Hell I saw a 7800 used at HRO a few weeks ago, didn't last long... and those were 10k not all that long ago. Expensive? yes... worth it? Depends on the guy buying it. Even a 7851 is not more expensive than an entry level, used weekend car or something.

    Making of Kenwood TS-990

Easy mod, would take me longer to get inside the thing. My 775-DSP was worse than that because the thing you had to remove was on the CPU on the inside front of radio, so you had to partially remove the face....

108in whip vs Wilson 5K on car - position

I have a 4 door sedan... and I could put a 108 coming off high on the right rear quarter panel (say at trunk level) or put a wilson 5K hardmounted in the roof... would the 108 suffer from being slightly lower? Or would it still outpace it in performance because it isn't as lossy as the...

    proper coax choke mobile..

this is what I was driving at, although you articulated it better.... I figure a 1:1 balun is easier to deal with with ferrites in a box or what have you vs a huge coffee can choke form in your car....

    Heil Pro 7 IC

Unless your feet are off the floor while operating, the foot switch is wicked easy.... although hand PTT would let you use an ottoman lmao.... depends on how lazy you want to get in the shack. The PTT buttons on Heil's mics suck, I'm pretty sure the on mic button is just a...

    proper coax choke mobile..

I guess is my point would be, can you take a conventional 1:1 balun (eg, basically the thing with two SO239s on it) and get the same effect... there usually running the feedline through a bunch of ferrites inside it... .

    stryker antennas

Has anyone ever tested a bunch of these antennas head to head in the same mounting position? EG, get someone like 15 miles away running a videogate on the S meter and then switch between say a predator, a Wilson 5K, and a stryker, etc.... Or perhaps even further away, because a...

    proper coax choke mobile..

Can you achieve the same effect (eg keeping RF off the coax) by installing a 1:1 Balun near the feedpoint of the mobile antenna?

    Anybody use a Kenwood TM-V71A?

Also for those interested, the unlock mod for this is trivially easy. So I backed up my radio with RT systems software and USB cable. Then I unplugged everything and took the lid off (bunch of screws, looks like #1 or close to it) and look on the left side of the radio you will see...

    Twin Fuse Power Cord

I always usually end up going bigger than stock on a radio but not by extreme amounts. They should both be the same, regardless. The whole purpose of the fuses is not so much to protect the radio as it is to keep your car or house from catching on fire.

    Magnum 1 Radio

These radios look OK but it's just a little suspicious that only a few vendors seem to be offering them, although I did see them on copper and some other place, and a note that indicated that distribution is constrained to certain retail ops...

IC-7300 affecting used rig sale prices?

I also have to laugh the guy puts an FT920 in the video... that thing was a 200% trashbox the moment it was released, anyone with a brain wouldn't pay more than 50 bucks for one of those things. :ROFLMAO:
