IC-7300 affecting used rig sale prices?

Yeah, but as it stands it probably won't, it seems to be pretty well built. I've had good luck with the gear I've bought over the past 2 decades or so, not having a single newer radio I've bought go tits up on me. As far as self repair goes, most people really don't have the...

    Anybody use a Kenwood TM-V71A?

The V71A will go remote no problem though if you needed it to. The ONLY thing I can whine about is the fact that the alpha tags are only big enough for a 6 letter callsign or something. So that part is somewhat deficient but hardly the worst thing in the world.

    Anybody use a Kenwood TM-V71A?

Just as a bump... bought one of these today.... initial impressions.... simple, robust, decent radio. Have it installed on my X500HNA at home and even with AIP off, the radio is not getting annihilated by intermod. I only ever heard a couple peeps out of it while tuning across 70cm...

RCI-2950CD owners chime in.. new owner here

Those mics are killer, problem is whenever they show up on fleabay someone wants a kidney for the damned thing..... the slide pots on them suck, but it probably wouldn't be that hard to put in a couple real potentiometers in the thing given a little bit of work.

    Mic Gain and AlC

This is why no matter what radio or amp or whatever you have you should always hook up a monitor receiver after making huge changes, even if you just have a loose coax jumper hanging out of it or whatever with a set of headphones on it..... this will give you the true reality of your audio/signal.

Ebay AL-811H, What Have I done?

I wasn't aware of that, most tube amps I've seen with ALC jacks have some kind of a pot on the back of the amp and then there's often one on the radio side, as well.

RCI-2950CD owners chime in.. new owner here

Seemingly 20+ years ago I had one of those mics around, they always seemed to work OK, and maintain reliability despite the clunky feeling, although I always wanted to take one and rewire it to knock the echo slider out and turn it into a volume/gain control instead.

    Power effecting SWR?

Depending on how the SWR bridge is set up in that radio, there might be a need for a minimum amount of power to read the SWR properly. It shouldn't really take much carrier to do so, though.

    RM KL506 amp

Anyone have one of these boxes and know what they are currently set up with? I know they used to be 4 x SD1446s and they used to be capable of about 400W PEP, not sure about nowadays though...

Ebay AL-811H, What Have I done?

This is good to know! I meant that in a literal sense, the operator is doing this when setting up the adjustment..., Obviously, the designer is going to say "set it to drive only with X maximum!" etc.

    HEIL ICM icom only mic.

I have an iCM and it works great on my 7600, 781, and 7300.... you will have to make some adjustments to the tone settings on your radio though to get it to sound right, otherwise it will be pretty flat. The PTT button on it sucks, though, but I think most people are going to key it...

    Anybody use a Kenwood TM-V71A?

I am deeply curious about this radio as well. I had a TM-V7A back in the day and I had to get rid of it because the intermod situation was bad, although it was not nearly as bad as the IC2820H I have now, that thing basically has a front end thats the size of an aircraft hangar. At...

    Mic Gain and AlC

Not in my experience. Take pretty much any modern HF rig at full output on SSB, and if you're keeping ALC meter at 50% or less on most of them there's no way in hell its putting out the maximum power on a decent PEP meter. For example if I did that on my old 706mkII, you would be lucky...

Video/review of the revolutionary Icom-7300 Software defined Export CB

Yes, but it's pretty easy if you have a decent soldering iron, fine tweezers and enough skills to remove the tiny diode [or is it a resistor?] on the board. If it's intimidating find someone with decent skills. I probably have "C" level skills and I did it in 5 minutes, then again I've...

Ebay AL-811H, What Have I done?

Well, on a TS440 you have to use the mic gain to adjust SSB power. ALC jacks are pretty much for amplifiers only, its like a feedback circuit between the radio and the amp to "leash" the radio's output depending on what the amp thinks it is getting for input power. Also, at some point...

Video/review of the revolutionary Icom-7300 Software defined Export CB

While I was tempted by the 7610 they'd be idiots. I think the 7610 is going to end up being a failure unless they resolve the QC issues with the screen burn, etc. The radio needs a "MKII' edition or to get replaced by a 7620 or something. I have seen barely used ones selling for big...

Video/review of the revolutionary Icom-7300 Software defined Export CB

I'm using mine mobile on 11M and 10M right now, it works really well, the NB is better than most other HF rigs out there, although if you get annihilated by multiple impulse noises at once, some will bleed through, but that tends to be more extreme situations, overall its much better than...

Ebay AL-811H, What Have I done?

IMHO the only reason to even use the thing is its insurance against a numbskull moment, it'll keep you from over driving the amp, but it all depends on your radio and operation practices you have in play. I think with some radios its more useful than others... for example... say you're...

RCI-2950CD owners chime in.. new owner here

Anyone know if these radios still have that AF hiss thing going on that the old 2950s had? Like for example, even with no signal, you'd hear a serious hiss in the speaker... its the type of thing an audio filter could probably chop out, though.
