    Portable antenna with gain

I just hope my explanation made sense, pictures would have been so much easier, as would the video, but I messed up with the video and then got a call from my nephew to go and tear the dirt up with his motorbikes on some waste land, I couldn't turn the offer down ;) The downside was the...

    Portable antenna with gain

So I've been thinking about gain, and as some of you may know I operate exclusively mobile, for those that didn't know, now you do  I also only use the amateur bands for SSB, although I still use the UK CB allocation and mode (FM), but no where near as much as I do amateur frequencies...

    Moxon for 11 meters

All PVC? no! All PVC were not created equal and carbon is added to some types of PVC, that's why it is suggested to stick a small amount in the microwave and look for a change in temperature, any heat increase and you know it's electrical insulation properties are suspect ;)

    Moxon for 11 meters

Try the Moxon as a vertical, you have nothing to lose and something to gain, it won't benefit from the far field like a horizontal version would, but should offer a directional improvement over the ground plane ;)

    New mobile antenna

You know what they say Conor; You snooze, you lose :D Good for FW5JJ Wallis and Futuna this morning ;)

    New mobile antenna

Sorry for he late reply and thanks to Connor for posting the video link. The antenna worked really well and stood up to some fierce winds without any problems, however I've moved on from that installation, firstly I bought an MFJ 1979 17' telescopic whip antenna, and whilst it cost a fair bit...

    HF antenna for mobiles

Here's their product testing video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c95wjBnat0c There is without doubt some effort put into the manufacture of this antenna, and I'm not sure most of the amateure products would stand up to such abuse, however from a RF performance perspective it is left...

    HANGING A DIPOLE VERTICALLY

It makes no difference because both elements radiate, it's a 1/2WL antenna with symmetrical radiation from both elements. Why not consider a coax / Cobra / T2LT dipole which is fed at its base, no problem with having to run the feedline at right angles and of simple construction. Here's Gary...

    Noise Blankers that actually Work?

Another thumbs up for the IC7000, I don't need to use it for my car as that's damned near radio silent, but for cell tower and other car interference it's great. I don't have it on normally, only using it when the need arises.

    RM KL-203 and Repair

I use an RM KL203 (earlier red model) with my FT817, with 5W SSB I get around 80W, it doesn't get too hot either as I use it with my pedestrian mobile outfit. I also use a blue version with my Icom IC703 with 10W PEP SSB, now that bad boy gets hot pretty quick, if I was rag chewing all the time...

Picture of inside of Sirio 5000 Performer

Would be interesting to see what is in the base of the Sirio and whether it has a shunt feed?

    Buddipole Deluxe Package (demo video)

Good antenna kit and works well, but the whips are a little fragile, I have black painted telescopic whips and have had to repair them a number of times, I'll be looking to replace them with something a little more durable when I get back to Blighty. The antenna mount can be a bit of a pain in...

    Vortex antennas

Hell fire that's a mighty claim Bob, nothing rots faster than a 70's Alfa  That said, Sirio is an Italian manufacturer  There's no doubting the build quality of Vortex antennas though, Dave Ogg (Oggy) is mighty impressed with his.

    Vortex antennas

I wonder if the CMC problem is due to the SO239 being well above the ground radials, therefore placing the coax above the radials. My understanding is that the coax should connect below the radials so as not to promote CMC?

How Many Watts Dead Key do Aviation radios have

The accepted standard range for VHF communication is 90 miles and yes AM, however I've spoken to many aircraft in excess of that up to around 150 miles depending on height and conditions. As for output power, for large transport aircraft that's often dependant on the spec ordered by the...

    Tarheel 40A-HP

You could always use a capacitor if you don't fancy installing a coil, however the capacitor isn't DC grounded, whereas the inductor is, why should this matter? Noise, the shunt coil will bleed any static built up in the antenna, a cap won't ;) However I find one size does not fit all, just...

    interesting coax vertical antenna...

I disagree, coax is unbalanced due to it's construction, not how we use it, if for some reason I attach coax to say a dipole, and then rather than put a PL259 on the other end, I attach the screen and centre conductor to the posts of a balanced tuner, does the coax then become balanced?

GS-Mfg mobile HF antenna VS. everyone ELSE

I ran a High Sierra Sidekick for a couple of years, it was sited on the roof of my car all that time, I'd like to say it worked flawlessly in that time, however it didn't, regular maintenance is a must, and when I once ignored it, water ingress from where the whip attached, then down the screw...

    interesting coax vertical antenna...

No need to peel the coax shield back, remember coax has three conductors, the centre conductor, the coax shield inner and the shield outer, that's why it is called an unbalanced feedline. Make your lower coax section half the length of your dipole and use single PVC coated wire for the other...
