And how big were the radials on your ground plane? were they 6 inches as in the quoted model?
If so then if I add two of them will I get 1000 Watts?
Or do I have to go out and buy an amplifier ?
Cheers Digger
Any VSWR reading should ideally be measured at the antenna end of the coax,
The one built into the atu will give you a reading of vswr into the coax, but it may be higher at the antenna end, this could be down to losses in the coax cable especially over long runs. So to answer your question Yes...
Let me clarify what I was warning about.
Your coax can act like a large capacitor holding a big charge I was merely
warning that after a storm it could still hold a high enough voltage to do damage when plugged back into your radio.
I was referring to a non DC grounded system, and yes if...
Whilst tossing the coax out of the window sounds like a good idea, one thing you have to watch out for is static electricity build up in the coax, one you could get a very high voltage jolt when yo pick the plug up, or even worse you could discharge the charge when you plug it back into the...
Ok you need to be very careful when soldering around the PLL chip it can easily be damaged by static-electricity or by overheating if you hold the soldering iron on the pin for too long! Also, they don't mention the use of a pull up resistor, which would be recommended to restrict any large...
No Problem I hope you get it working ok.
I suggest once you have sorted it. draw a picture of the socket with the 4 pins and label them up a bit like this and then just tape the piece of paper underneath your radio or tape it to cover on the inside of the radio.
In most mics the screen...
Ok for now forget about the color of the wires!
Do you have a multimeter? if not borrow one or buy one they are invaluable.
you have to meter the wires on the mic cable.
You have a four pin mic socket on the radio, ignore what color the wires are inside
According to that website...
Thought I would post this in here as well as the Ham Radio section
This guy has some great info for improving your mobile installation.

Not Sure if you have considered this but the lower 1/4 wave of the slim jim
could actually be bent 90 degs to the vertical part and I dont think it would make any difference to the transmitted vertical signal, i saw a guy who had made one for 70MHz band and he had done this to fit it inside his...
