Left to right RBM REceiver with regulated power supply on top (ARC-3) 8 watt AM crystal controled transmitter some receiving converters and on right a BC-348 Receiver, Antennas were stacked 11 elm cushcraft.
I run LMR400 on all my runs we use it for all the repeaters out at the jail it is good coax.
Here are my antennas fed with LMR400 I use ICE lighting aresters right now they are not in production so polyphasers would be my next choice.
The FT-840 is a solid radio i still use mine .... worked the world with it.
There are many good radios but AVOID the ft-000d if you out looking on a new radio I like my TS-2000 a shack in a box ....
I had a A-99 for 10 meters then bought a Hygain 12AVQ and installed a GPK-1 kit for 10 meters and sets of HAMSTICKS for 15 and 20 Meters. The A-99 could not even equal the 12 AVQ on 28 mhz ........
3 bands on one antenna ...... and 12 and 17 with a MFJ tuner .....

Another time proven but horizontal antenna is a squailo I have worked new york from tampabay with a stacked pair of KU4AB squailos on 144.200 mhz .
