I'll resurrect this old post. I think the original poster wanted some recommendations on good sites and time savers. I downloaded FLDIGI to deal with all the data I'm hearing but can't get it to decode much(only some cw). How do you tell what type of data and how to decode it by listening to...
Me too
I'm with you Watergate. I just passed the Tech and General two days ago and am trying to find a rig. I have been torn between 10 & 2 meters and would like to hear about your experience on 10 meters. As far as 2 meters I've decided it is best to spend a few more bucks and get something...
I was going to put a 2 meter antenna on top or next to the 10 meter on a horizontal bar. Could I actually use the tower to create a lobe to my advantage?

My TV antenna is about 35' up so I am going to put some kind of offset for a 10 meter ground plane mounted to the side of it at about 15 feet up. Are there any considerations about the antenna being parallel to the tower?

I am new and have no experience on 10 meters so I don't know what most people are doing. I meant omnidirectional compared to dipole. I've seen some 10 meter antennas that look like CB antennas (5/8?). My main goal in setting up the station is to talk to the mobile though.
The only reasonable ones I am able to find are the Icom 7000, Icom 706MK2, and Yaesu FT-897D (I've eliminated the 8900 since it's FM only). Any help in decision making? Things like ctcss, digital, etc...
Confused
I just spoke with a ham who said 10 is better than 2. He said it's hard to get over 30-40 miles. I plan on getting a 2 meter base antenna with 8.3db gain and I already have the LMR400. If I go with 10 meter I've been reading a lot of good things about this new base antenna by...
I am interested in home-mobile simplex communications. If I've got a gain antenna about 30' up can I get better reception on sideband rather than FM? Both antennas will be vertical. I am having trouble finding ssb rigs other than Yaesu FT8xx. Does Icom make any?
>then study more and experiment more<
These answers are part of my study. I used to be an operator about 30 years ago when I was a bit younger. I was only a novice but we got on my friend's dad's rig and went to town. The technician license is basically for 10 or 2 meters. I can't afford to...
Does anyone make a 10 & 2 meter rig besides the Yaesu FT-8900R? It is only FM. I have seen some full HF & VHF rigs but they are super expensive.
dual post
Someone mentioned the best mobile antenna for 10 meters is a 100" whip if you don't mind the size. Is this true?? I'm asking because I want both 2 & 10 meters and ran across the Diamond quad band antenna CR8900A. It doesn't seem to have much 2M gain. Would I be better off with a 10M whip...
