Welcome to the forum. I started on 11 meters back in 1968. And still get on it at times. But amateur radio can be much more fun. The test are not very hard. And you can talk to many more people. And with a General class license you can talk to people anywhere in the World on the HF bands.
The Firestiks use the 3/8 24 type of mount. I don't think the Sirio 145 PL will work. But the Sirio Mag 145 3/8 Magnetic Mount should. With such a small lightweight antenna you may not need a 6" Magnet if you only plan on running a 3' antenna.
If you re-read what I did say to an old friend. Was I read a post said that someone says his now tunes 10, 11, and 12 meters. Mine is doing 11 and some of 10 meters on a Mag mount. I never said that hard mounting makes an antenna more broadbanded. I have said in past post that a thicker stinger...
Hi Dave, I know that the Sirio 5000 has a UHF mount. I tuned mine from 26.950 (1:7) - 28.740 (1:7-1:8) on MFJ-259. I read a post on a forum where someone tuned his to do 10, 11, and 12 meters after hard mounting it to body.
Most EXPORT radios can't be used on the Ham bands because they are AM/FM only. And we use mostly SSB. also most only cover 6 bands and don't go into the voice (phone) portion of 10 meters. I would like to ask just what do you plan on doing on Ham radio? Are you driving a Big truck? Are you OTH...
I've run both the Wilson mag mount 1000 and 5000 for over 15 years. I find them both to be about the same. Last may I purchased a Sirio pl5000 w/145 mag mount. And I feel that the Wilson antenna can't even come close. I see about 5-15 more miles mobile to mobile over the Wilson everyday...
Why RG-213 coax? It has more lost than RG-8U. The RG-8 is rated at 2000 watts and the RG-213 is rated at 5000 watts. In a mobile RG-8X is fine for such a short run. And the Diamond mounts do works very well. But it may not be the easiest to swap to a larger coax. I find that the Sirio 145 mag...
I've run the older red 203 amp for over 10 years. Still work like new. Keep the lower DK. And you and your 203 should be happy for years. People that I know who put more than 2 watts into their 203's killed them early.
No he won't! He needs to trade it to me for a Brand New Wilson 5000 Mag mount. Then he'll see how much better it is over the Lil' Wil. The Sirio is too much for him. No I really think that he will love his new toy. Just like we love ours. Congrats lolpetewtf on getting your Sirio 5000.
