Anyone up for a Turkey Day week-end LSB 16 DX week-end? Of course, I'll have to step away for the Florida vs. Florida State game. But college football, Thanksgiving and a little DX sounds like a pretty good week-end to me.
I had my walkie talkie marine mobile set up last week-end. 38LSB was pretty backed up. The annoying thing was the number of local conversations folks were having apparently oblivious to the idea that they might be cluttering up the main call channel.
I had a short QSO with 77 in London...
OCTOBER 14-15th LSB 16 NET
Just a friendly reminder that we are going all out on LSB 16 this week-end. We'll follow our old protocol of starting at noon eastern time on Saturday and then aiming for every hour on the hour after that. We'll do the same on Sunday.
Fall weather conditions are...
In my area, South Florida, GMRS is where CBers and hams looking for a more amicable radio environment are finding common ground and coming together.
The South Dade GMRS club in Miami and the Conch Auxiliary Radio Emergency Services (CARES) here in the Keys have joined forces to link a Miami...
Terrible local weather conditions today. It has been pouring rain all afternoon accompanied by thunder and lightning. It was definitely time to unscrew the coax from the back of the set.
I'll definitely make random shout outs between now and then, but I'm going to plan on saving my best...
I scan LSB 16, USB 40 and LSB 35-40 every so often. Conditions have not been great. I'll keep randomly scanning on occasion, but I'm definitely going to focus on making contacts the October 14-15th week-end on LSB 16. The more of us that are out there on the coordinated dates the better the...
LSB 38 has been pretty messy this morning. Boston, Montreal, Calgary, Minnesota and a few stations from Texas were talking all over each other.
LSB 16 was dead. Not a soul on there.
Despite LSB 38 hopping, the only other skip I picked up was Brasil on LSB 40.
Back to the Uniden Bearcat 980.
I've had two. The first one performed flawlessly for six months and then the finals died. Amazon refunded me my money and I decided I was better off bringing my 40+ year old Realistic Navaho TRC 490 SSB base out of retirement to replace it.
I bought a second...

We had some fantastic DX days last October and November. I'm hoping we see a repeat of those conditions this year. We are long overdue.
So...how would everyone feel if we took a step back to re-group? How about we take some time to get the word out that we'll be pushing for another LSB...
I made a good, solid contact on LSB 16 with WDX 226 at around 5:15P.M. eastern. Around 5:49P.M., I made a good contact with 2880 in Central New York. The conditions are out there, but we don't seem to have the numbers today. Let's see if other WDX members join the party.
I've got the radio on as I engage in the great American past-time of watching college football. There is some skip propagation today. Unfortunately, no luck today on LSB 16 through 4:25P.M. LSB 38 has some activity, but I'm not hearing pile-ups. Efforts to reach fellow WWDX members on USB...
There are some interesting articles out about how the sun is out of whack and not following its usual patterns with respect to the flipping of its poles. There seems to be some suggestion that this explains why skip hasn't been what we would expect at this period in the 11 year cycle. Looks...
Yep, LSB36-40 is piled up big-time. Hearing St. Louis, San diego, British Columbia, New Jersey and plenty of other parts of North America. I haven't heard this much skip in a while.
I didn't hear much today. We're supposed to be heading towards the peak of the cycle, but this has not been like any cycle I recall in the past. We had a period in October - November of last year (2022) where LSB 16 was hopping just about every week-end. Then it seems like the skip just died...
There is activity on LSB 38 this afternoon, but it isn't the dreaded pile-up. There is some background activity on both LSB 16 and USB 40. However, I haven't heard any stations looking to make DX contacts. I'll try again now at 4:00P.M. eastern, but the Miami vs. Texas A & M game will get my...
