looks like a radio shack 5/8 wave. they did not have the matching device like the hygain penetrators did.

is there anything to lessen incoming ac noise on a base radio? like adding a better/bigger filter (cap) on the input of the cord or coax?

the weak link here is the Silver Salute (IN MY OPINION) they sound YUCKY! tell him (beg him) to buy a clean D104 off ebay. no comparison. NONE. silver salute is not even in the same league as a hand held D104.
