im sorry could you explain what you mean by reflector element? i think i know what you mean but would just like to clarify. does the reflector have to be connected to anything or just a piece of metal very near the antenna? Thanks.

I agree that these radio are complete junk! I got one once and it would swing backwards on AM and only do about 5 watts on SSB. Later i ended up scraping it for the controls, display, meter, ect. If your looking for a new CB, DON'T buy the new 148 get an old one from the '70s and 80s or a good...

I would go with the 25 watt slug because it gives a range of what amount of pwr you want to measure. It doesn't measure too much or too less.

Yes i have had the same expirience. I baught a new one of these radios and hooked up just to see the display did not work. At first I was disoppointed but then figured out that the dimmer knob turns off the display and everything worked fine after that.

I'm using an MFJ versa tuner 2. I only use the watt meter though and not the tuner. MFJ is usually a fairly high quality brand and makes good equipment. Not sure what the problem is.
