    "prototype" 10 Meter Amplifier

350 watt power input MAX, yet 480 watt PEP SSB OUTPUT. Hmmmmm???? He may have found a way to break the laws of physics.

Business band 1/4 wave better than Larson?

Nothing beats a quarter wave antenna, mounted in the center of the roof, for a mobile antenna. Hard to do on HF though!:D

    PDL2 & Moonraker hybrid for 10m

What is the purpose of the egg beater thingees on the Moonraker? Some kind of matching device?

    sb-221 Question

Don't worry about it. The amplifier is working just fine. If you really want to see what the amplifier is doing, look at it on an oscilloscope, that will tell the tale. The meter cannot physically keep up with voice peaks. People on here seem to put too much stock on what their power output...

    Very narrow sweet spot yagi

I have built 2 LFA's for 6 meters, and one for 2 meters. All 3 antennas work very well, and I am completely satisfied with them. You can home-brew one for about 1/4 the cost of buying one. Actually, I built the 2 meter 9 element with leftovers from the 6 meter project, except for the boom and...

    Very narrow sweet spot yagi

Check out the antennas at g0ksc.co.uk. The LFA yogis are direct fed, no matching device needed. And they are wide band, to boot.

    6 Meters at 30 to 50 miles

With 100 watts and a 5 element beam, 0-200 miles should be a piece of cake. I can work mobiles in Jacksonville, 70 miles away, no sweat, every day.

    TS590 Any solutions yet?

Bob, Bob, Bob, did you not look at the scope pattern? Do you not understand that a mechanical meter is not physically capable of keeping up with the complex waveform of the human voice displayed on the 'scope display?

Scope VS Wattmeter Here are some pictures I took today, showing output on my 590 with compressor on. 100W CW with wattmeter and scope, then 100w SSB. Wattmeter reads about 35 watts, but you see full deflection on the scope. Last picture is close up, showing complex waveform of the speech...

    interesting coax vertical antenna...

No, it does not become balanced. The center conductor and shield are two different sizes. Ladder line has two conductors the same size.

    HF vertical antenna

If you want to "roll your own", DX Engineering as really good prices on aluminum tubing that telescopes together, as well as complete vertical's. They have all the parts to put such a system together, as well.

    HF vertical antenna

Won't work worth a crap, unless you have an elevated radial system, if mounted above ground level. Best to have a radial system, when ground mounted, as well, despite what the advertising information says.

hex beams ,stryker955,kenwood ts 480 hx

Heard the the guy who designed the Hex Beam on 17 meters yesterday. According to him, it is the most amazing antenna ever designed. That being said, for the money, you can't get 5 bands in one package for less. And they do work very well, with minimal wind loading. I am considering one...

    TS590 Any solutions yet?

I think you are worried about nothing. Audio/TX power looks good on my scope, classic text book SSB patterns. There is a difference, of course with the processor in or out. I think you are splitting hairs, here.

    TS590 Any solutions yet?

Here is a good read on setting up the TX audio for the 590. I have used this and it works. I also have an oscilloscope monitoring my TX output/audio, so I can verify proper operation. Note that the "power meter" in the 590 does NOT read PEP, it reads average power. I have not noted any power...

    interesting coax vertical antenna...

A lot of companies make those coaxial antennas for low/high band commercial two way radio and no chokes were ever used or needed. I have also made antennas in a pinch for 2 meter FM portable operation, and never had a problem with common mode currents. The LFA antennas use a quarter wave stub...

    Receiver kit recommendations...

Check these guys out. I have the low band receiver, and just got a 6, 4, or 2 meter kit, that i have not put together yet. You need a good set of eyes, those surface mount components are SMALL. And a good soldering station with pin point tips. Five Dash Inc. Your Source for SoftRock Radio Kits

    Running dual 600 ladder line

Why are you feeding an 80 meter dipole antenna, which has a native impedance of 72 ohms with 600 ohm feed line? Are you attempting to make a fan dipole? You might be better off using a coaxial feed line.

    interesting coax vertical antenna...

To be a true coaxial antenna the shield that is peeled back from the center conductor should be doubled back on the shield of the lower part of the antenna, making a quarter wave stub or counterpoise. Then the choke would not be needed.
