KENWOOD TS-2000 INTERMITTENT STOP TRANSMIT AND RECEIVE

You should send this to Kenwood service. Might help them out.:lol:

    Balun Ratios?

In the illustration you provided, the "balun" is a matching transformer to match the 37 ohm dipole to the 52 ohm coax. When dipoles are used as driven elements in yagis, their impedance may not 50 ohms. There are many designs that are 12.5 ohm and 28 ohm. Mostly determined by the spacing of the...

    What coax to use?

LMR400 is only about a buck a foot. Not really that expensive, think it's good for 2100 watts at 30 Mhz.

    Storm Killed my Quad.

Well, I can tell you this, I have a stack of LFA yagis on 6 meters. When I had one up, it was susceptible to precipitation static. The driven element on an LFA is a 1 wavelength closed loop, similar to a quad. Ironically, when I had static on the 6 meter loop, the 2 meter LFA had none. I am...

rohn bx 64 and dual polarity yagi or quad plus 5/8 vertical

Mine is aluminum, 2" double wall. Got it from a scrapped commercial VHF 2-way antenna. Dx Engineering has some antenna masts or try and find a metal supply company nearby.

Can my rig be giving me bad SWR readings?

Here is an interesting read for you on Windoms: Radiation Patterns - HAMwaves.com Maximum radiation appears to be off the wire ends, similar to a Beverage antenna. Just the opposite of a dipole.

rohn bx 64 and dual polarity yagi or quad plus 5/8 vertical

I have a Rohn 25 tower with a 21 foot mast, and 3 feet is nested in the tower, down to the rotor. I have 2 yagis on 24 foot booms, spaced about 10' apart. There is a picture on my QRZ page. That being said, I do not know what the specifications on your mast are, so myself or anyone else...

    Earth Moon Earth Comms

A lot of guys do EME on 6 with a single yagi and 400 watts or more on 6 meters, using JT65A. Lance W7GJ, often goes on DXpeditions with a single 8 element yagi and 1KW solid state amp. I have heard him say you need at least 50' of boom length to get the proper amount of gain on 6. I heard he...

    350MHz, 500,600,700,800Mhz?

DON'T DO IT! Ham radios are NOT FCC type accepted for use on Business/Public Safety radio frequencies. Oh, and audio output is directly related to transmitter deviation, so, if you turn down the deviation to "narrowband it", the TX will be narrowband but the RX will not. Listening to other...

Can my rig be giving me bad SWR readings?

If you have good SWR on certain bands, it is how the antenna feed point is positioned, that is giving you bad readings on those other bands. Problem with those OCF antennas is the have a lot sharp nulls in many directions. So, you might be missing out on DX in those directions.

    Storm Killed my Quad.

Yeah, those quads can be mechanical nightmares. I think you will be much happier with the yagi. When I was 14, I built a 20 meter quad out of wood and bamboo fishing poles. Varnished it all up, it was a thing of beauty. Until northeastern Ohio's cruel winter took it down. First DX I worked...

    question for those with towers/bearing/rotor

I have never done this on any tower. We don't do it on commercial radio installations. That being said I have had some strikes in the area of my home, but all have taken out phone related equipment, such as DSL routers. Never had any ham equipment damaged by lightning. Not saying it can't...

Wawasee Black Cat Mobile Tube Amp. Good or bad?

    6v transformer

Yes, the .3 volt can effect the life of the tube. Just put a dropping resistor on the secondary side and adjust to 6.0 volts, if you cannot find a transformer.

HF in the mobile ??? or just 10 meters???

Work quite a few guys mobile on 40 with screwdrivers. Worked KD8JPM from Jax, Fl almost all the way up to Charlotte, NC, today. Would not have know he was mobile, if he didn't tell me. IC7000 to a screwdriver on his P/U. Great signal.:D

    TheAntennaFarm Review ★★★★★

I get all my coax, connectors, etc from Tessco.com. Good, professional two-way supplies and equipment. I use all crimp on connectors for soft coax. (I do solder the center conductors, though) They carry Times Microwave coax in all flavors, and the PROPER connectors for them. Yep, they cost...

HF in the mobile ??? or just 10 meters???

I see a lot of screwdriver antennas mounted on pickups around here. Most vehicles don't have ham plates or call signs in the windows, so I don't know who they are. Usually see several every week. I hear a lot of 40 meter mobile stations, out 4-800 miles and quite a few on 17 meters as well...
