Internally and externally this amp does appear to actually be a Messenger M250 as indicated by 357 above.
Easy enough to find the specs and schematic for M250, but nowhere can I find the stated power output for Low, Medium and High. Assuming under optimal conditions that High is 250w, what...
Thanks for all of the info and history about the Palomar name and Messenger amps. If it is a Messenger (and the internals do appear to match) I can only find models above 100w.
357, What "model" or how many watts is the amp in the picture?
Thanks for the info! That should give me something to go on as I have been coming up empty handed, browsing for hours. Never heard of Messenger but they must have had a decent size operation going, good clean work.
Got a reply from Palomar:
"Ron
Thanks for the email. That unit does not look familiar. I don't think this was made by us. Sorry.
Eric"
I guess I can test it to see if it works but would like someone to put in on the bench and find out what is up.
Here is the vertical board towards the back...
Learn how to ask for a radio check in Spanish. Spanglish is close enough. Yo tengo un check de radio por favor? The airwaves should erupt. :D Works in Texas along the interstate.
Do you know what year yours was made? I watched parts of a few refurb videos and they did not seem as complex as the one I have. I thought maybe mine was older but now I don't know?
Very clean under the hood.
Can't read the transistors under the copper bands but I found what might be the correct schematic, not sure. ETA: WRONG SCHEMATIC
At around 100 watts, now I am wondering if this amp would be a good match to drive the straight 6 Fatboy I came across a few weeks...
Bought a dirty Cobra 29 LTD Classic side mic model with power mic and external speaker for $1 this morning. I will stack them to the ceiling at that price.
Went to an estate sale this afternoon and saw the common pile of wires, antennas and more wires wrapped around a crappy Uniden in the...
The dish on the tower is also not connected. He plans to remove the dish and the old TV antenna. He has been looking at A-99's now and is considering the Solarcon. I may give him a Magnum S-3 to play with. He is only a few miles from an Interstate Highway, plenty close for some fun. Hell I may...
TV Antenna? Friend of mine just bought a house that already has a 50' tower installed. Lucky bastid! He is not into radio (as of yet) and has Dish TV so the tower is not being used at this point. He sent me this pic of the antenna and I said it is probably an old analog TV antenna of no use. He...
It's possible that is the exact scanner antenna I have been using for 8 or 9 years. Mounted on corner of 2nd story roof, works great, never had a problem. Mine might even be a little more flimsy but has held up well. When I move I was considering upgrading but I will probably just keep it until...
Sounds complicated. I'm satisfied with AM only. As far as I can remember, I have really only used SSB to respond to a couple 10M contests I happened to catch going on. Would be cool though and something to keep in mind for later on down the road. Thanks for making me aware.
Tell me more about the benefit of this "trick" or the "bias circuit". I rate myself 7/10 in soldering ability. If it's not too complicated and actually beneficial, I have the equipment...
For SSB I can just flick off the amp and use the 257HP. The 257HP has always been great for highway use...
Thanks again for all replies. A high drive amp... Pretty sure the Magnum 257HP fits that bill. I have a few other CB's but nothing as powerful or versatile, and I also enjoy 10M from time to time.
The tech did put the Magnum before the FatBoy on the bench to a dummy load. He seemed more...
Nice first post! And I think this is exactly what the man of few words who did the bench test was trying to convey to me. He probably thought I knew more than I did, I was just glad to be there really. Reading this thread makes me really apprehensive about installing the amp in my 2016 Ram 1500...
