It was quite most of the day down around San Antonio but this evening it is busy. I talked to California and Pennsylvania. I did not stay out in the pickup for long. It will ge nice to get a base station going again.
I have heard quite a few guys on the quad 6 as they call it. They sound good and have enough muscle to get out on sideband. No need, really, for an amp if you have a good antenna.
The 980 is an OK choice, but you will need a rm 203 behind it to get the contacts.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog.
I haven't had a pet in years, but I look forward to getting off the road soon...so hopefully I can get a couple of dogs to keep me company. I had 2 Australian Shepherds at separate times, I really enjoyed those dogs.
Crazy good conditions around the Houston,Tx area today. In the morning I heard the northeast corner, later in the morning it was the Pacific Northwest.
I just listened until I heard German, Italy, and Ireland. My only contact across water was to 030 Derrick I believe in southwest Ireland. I...
Yesterday evening I was hearing Brazil and Australia at the same time.
Skip has been in and out for me down hear in South Texas. I have made a few contacts to California on up to Vancouver this past week. Even made a rough contact to Costa Rica the other day.
I had some decent midwest conditions this morning down here in south Texas. I made zero contacts up north. My only contact was a good one out to Arizona.
I shutdown early today after 3 busy days of running loads.
Nothing in my receiver right now an hour south of Houston.
Had some great skip this morning as well around San Antonio. I made contacts to New Hampshire. Massachusetts, Connecticut a few minutes later I made contact to Washington state. All is quite now though.
I had about an hour and a half of Rollin yesterday. Same ole same ole. NIST calibration, Faraday cage, windowlickers, blah blah freaking blah.
I heard a couple of guys going through Lordsburg giving it right back at him.
Of course he talked about how bad they sound and how they were bleeding...
I like my MFJ 870 meter, although it is too large for me at least in the mobile. It is good for the house. Seems to be a little stingy on max power reading. Seems to be great for reading SWRs and reflected power.
My only complaint is the knobs to switch power settings, cal, swr are awful. I...
You probably heard a guy in Alabama using echo. I made contact with him a day or two ago. I didn't care fir the echo he was running either. But, I must say I am digging the FM mode more then I thought I would.
I do believe it is the official unofficial freeband frequency. I talked with a guy from southeast Missouri last night and had a good conversation. He told me that today is the one year anniversary of a facebook group using 26.805 FM. So today they are doing a call log in.
I heard a couple of...
The dx is rolling down here around San Antonio. I made a few contacts to the Midwest on ssb, so I gave FM a try and made two solid contacts. One to Missouri and the other to Iowa. And I made rough contact to Alabama. Not bad for a mobile!
The contacts were on 26.805
