Effingham Radio
It is south of Chicago yes, but about 250 miles.
I've had a mobile radio let me down (not for the first time) so am gonna chuck it in the bin! It's a Magnum 257 clone.
I need a fairly quick turnaround, which I can do on ebay, provided their tunes are legit.

Anyone had any dealings with Effingham Radio Repair, Effingham Illinois?
They have a pretty big presence on ebay, with lots of good feedback, although most of it seems to be about accessories.
Will be tossing a coin over a Uniden 980SSB or Galaxy 979.
How good are their...
CBC International
Have been waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for the new edition of Lou Franklins 'Understanding & Repairing CB radios'
If this book is of interest also, release of the new edition is imminent..
One of my rigs had an S-meter that went backwards. It was a variant of the Lafayette Telsat SSB-140.
Also, I think with the RF gain fully open the needle didn't go back to S 0 but settled on about S 5 even with no signals or QRM present.
The backwards meter could be a reversed diode in the...
Sirio SY 27-5-6
I wonder why Sirio don't manufacture an SY27-5 or -6?
Most antenna manufacturers build 3,4,5 and even 6 element yagis as
standard.
I gue$$ Sirio would have to start using more heavy duty materials.
BTW nearly every aluminium Sirio 5/8 vertical I see around has a...
Can anyone tell me what the radios in the pictures are most commonly badged as in the USA?
The pictures show a European version I think, the Sommerkamp, and one of the Australian versions by Pearce-Simpson.
My own one is badged differently again.
I want to get a SAMS manual for it.

OK thanks.
I read somewhere that the first digit in the serial number of Taiwanese made 2000's meant the year of manufacture.
Mine starting with '9' led me to think it was 1989, or 1979.
I'm still surprised that Cobra themselves couldn't tell me.
The original owners full name and...
By chance I have acquired a Cobra 2000GTL. The radio is in outstanding condition, a lucky find.
Being curious about the build date, I emailed Cobra with the serial number. This was their response:
We can not tell by the serial number when that radio was manufactured, we started...
In the 80's I had the Electrophone CB-590 base, which looks identical to the Kraco, but with apparently more modern innards. It had the 02A chip I think.
Your Kraco is almost certainly a 23 channel. So it will be the same as the American ones, which means there will be a SAMS manual for it...
Royce 642
Nice setup ExitThirteen.
Hope to have a matching Royce mic for my own 642 one day.
Do you have an owners manual??
I have a SAMS manual, but not an owners manual for my 642.
Have searched but nowhere on the net to down load one.

CB Action $$$
CB Action was THE magazine if you were into CB here in OZ in the old days. It was our equivelent to magazines such as 'S9' and the like.
It continued in various guises until the early 2000's I think.
The old issues from the original boom, many of which I have, are worth a...
Kens Electronics repair manuals
On the subject of Kens Electronics, their website lists a number of CB related repair manuals, the yellow, red & green books etc etc.
Anyone have any knowledge of these, and if they were useful?
