    CB handhelds.........

I want to thank those who responded to my question about hand held CB's. I've taken the info provided both here on on a couple of other radio boards along with study on the topic on line to decide what I need to meet my interest level in CB radios. While not perfect by some standards the radio I...

    CB handhelds.........

What is the general opinion of hand held CB's that can also be used with an auxilluary antenna? I ask due to my main radio interest being Shortwave Listening with an occasional side trip to CB's. I need to upgrade just a bit and need a radio that is both mobil and can be used for a ad hoc...

An interesting product. Kinda wonder that the line loss is with this product. Does anyone know how much , if any, signal is lost?

    New FCC language about CB's

That could be since the laws gets very specific about selling.

    New FCC language about CB's

Where does the FCC rules say this? I'm not quite done reading them all and have not come across any such "can't sell" rule.

    New FCC language about CB's

Does this mean that there is no longer any distinction between 23ch & 40 ch as long as the radio has an FCC acceptance sticker? Sure seems that way to me. I've read not quite all of the FCC rules about CB's as they are today and find no mention (as yet) of the legality of 23 ch radios in and...

Question for the older CB'ers here

Thanks for this. After reading the linked thread it all sorta came back to me why I stopped using the 23 ch Robyn's in the first place. I couldn't afford the new 40 ch when my 23 ch still worked! (Four boys at home to raise at the time too!) Got ticked off to the point I just quit. Now that...

Question for the older CB'ers here

Please explain why they were not accepted by the FCC. Kinda like to know about that.

Question for the older CB'ers here

Like anything else there's the good , the bad, and the ugly. If I remember right the Old Robyns were just ok for getting out. Then there's the sad fact that CB radios where I live it could be tough to get even a minor repair done if they need it which is why I don't want waste money on them if...

Question for the older CB'ers here

What is your opinion of the old Robyn line of radios? I have 23 channels Robyn base & a 23 channel Robyn mobil from that time period that I bought new during the cb craze of the 70's. They have been in storage for about 20 yrs now but I'd like to get them out and see if they work. With all...

    MVT-7100 vs ATS-505 vs DX-394

Try to keep your long wire for any portable radio no longer than 20 ft (6.096 meters) or less to keep from overloading the radios front end. Just clip the wire to the UNEXTENDED radio antenna and you'll do ok. Best of luck & enjoy!

    Icom IC-R70

From what little I've heard/read about this radio it's decent enough. I don't know if it's worth $200 but if you think so buy it. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2594

    MVT-7100 vs ATS-505 vs DX-394

Get the sony and don't look back. While the other radios you mentioned are Ok at the prices sony 7600GR's are today there is no reason not to buy it and a whole lot of reasons to buy it. Remember you get a a second wire antenna WITH the sony that will add much to the signal capture while doing...

    MVT-7100 vs ATS-505 vs DX-394

Yes, you can "blow" the front end of a portable much easier than a regular table top radio. The reason is portables have MUCH greater sensitivity in order to capture signal to listen to. Table tops have robust parts to allow for the use of antenna arrays that really grab signal. An amplified...

    MVT-7100 vs ATS-505 vs DX-394

The naked truth about Sony is be careful about overload. Be VERY careful!! The Sony I mentioned comes with a clip on antenna that is about all that is safe to use so it's really a package deal. Amazon often can be the cheapest place to buy the Sony. (one point: the speaker on the sony is best...

    MVT-7100 vs ATS-505 vs DX-394

Portable radios in general are MORE sensitive than table top radios if they are a quality set. Portables have developed to the point now that SWL is a very doable activity with just a portable and (maybe) a passive antenna to make up a nice set up. This is good info to teach the SWL new to...
