The sun is starting to respond, thank goodness, but It's anyones guess how good the cycle will be. Some people aren't convenced the new cycle (cycle24) has even started. I would stick with murs or gmrs.

Borrow another radio and see if it makes any difference. Is the wilson a "mag mount"? If so, permanently mount it. It could be a ground problem.
