Just about the time I sent the last post it started closing down here...good up north according to dxmaps but not much in the south east now.
Staying mostly on 305 with an occasional call on 400.
Last two before closing it up:
12 inches of wire fed to inside of collector. Its attached to the screw eye with one turn of wire around eye, then two UV resistant zip ties. I hope the tiny coild of wire around the screw eye doesn't cause issues.
Finished except for closing it up...
Multi-tasking while trying for contacts
OK...I've been sitting here trying to make contacts while 10 is open with the mic in one hand and the soldering gun in the other (hoping I don't bring the wrong hand to my lips if I want to talk), and thought I'd show y'all were I am on the 4 band, 80-10...
Yeah, but I'm not sure how much power I'm getting...I put a Vanco SWR-2 on it and hope the meter is wrong...it shows 10 watts.
On the other hand, it shows the SWR on my A99 to be 1.7.
Translation? I see a line from my location to about Memphis, with a call there that has a south Florida address...this means? A Ham with a Florida address was in Memphis and heard me calling CQ but couldn't get back to me?
If MUF map is correct, I might squeak out a contact in an hour or two.
Wish I could figger this Baofeng out...I'd take a 2 meter contact at this point.
So...10 meter is most likely to be open to me when the MUF for my location is 20 or below? And I am most likely to be able to talk to folks within 1500 kiometers of me...a 3000 long path... along that 20 Mhrtz contour?
Hearing a "Ray Johnson" in LA but can't get his call...I think he's hearing me but can't pull anything I say out.
Several around Memphis on 310 but I can't get 'em to hear me.
OK...did some digging and found that the carrier knob is the power control but the meter is not calibrated to show power output. You have to use a power meter to see what you are putting out, which means...
I've been transmitting @ zero watts for two days. Explains a lot.
