So...my ca;lling for the last two days has been wasted breath...I've been calling @ zero watts?
Is the power control proportional? Is full counter clockwise 0 watts, full clockwise 100 watts, and straight up 50 watts?
This is a Kenwood TS130S...I was told that for CW carrier should be turned up and mic down, but for fone turn mic up and carrier all the way down. Is that incorrect? The guy I bought it from was almost exclusively a CW guy and may have been wrone on the carrier for fone...
OK...let's see if I have everything set right to give me the best shot at a contact:
SEND/REC is in REC.
Mode is SSB
PROC is ON
VOX is MAN
Meter Switch is ALC
FIX Switch is VFO
Mic/Carrier: Carrier is all the way counterclockwise and Mic is at ~1:00.
AF/RF Gain: RF gain full...
At this point I'm not even sure anymore that I'm operating the radio correctly, that I have all controls in correct settings.
I was just on 28.425 and there was Todd, clear as a bell, and I called and he never flinched...just kept doing his thing.
I've tried to get back to a couple of others I...
One is on the way...mailed from Wisc Monday.
I didn't need one on 11 meter...my Cobra 148GTL has one built in that is fairly accurate.
I'm about to decide that this Ham thing is a LOT like my AR-15...the gun, or the radio...is just the start.Accessories like extra mags, optics, sling, tac...
Not sure if I hurt or helped the situation...just moved the tuning rings on the A99 all the way up to shorten the antenna and get it closer to0 10 meter.
6 inches brings in 10 meter well while keeping the 11 meter useability WITHOUT a tuner, just the tuning rings?
If I do that, what is a good starting point for the tuning rings on 10 meters after cutting 6 inches off?
If I want to use an A99 for 10 meter but don't want to ruin it for 11 meter by cutting 11 inches off the top (per the A99 instructions), can I get at least useably close to 28.300 to 28.500 by adjusting the tuning rings towards the top of the antenna, thus "shortening" it?
Getting the dipole up won't do any good on contacts until I get my upgrade...hopefully next month. It will be nice to be able to listen to something besides static and Todd though!...:headbang
I don't know if its any of y'all, but way, way in the background I'm hearing a little traffic on 305 that seems to be calling CQ...I've been answering (and calling myself) but nothing yet.
I'm really REALLY hoping my first contact is someone from here who has helped me so much OR the Ham I...
I'm sitting on 305...listening all the time and calling every 15 min... I did run over to 425 a few minutes ago...Beacon Todd wasn't there, at least for me.
Bad as yesterday was, today's sunspot activity is even worse...16 sunspots according to SpaceWeather.com.
Ah well...I'm sitting on 28.305 just in case, calling occasionally. I've been to 425 and don't even hear Todd the Beacon...LOL
