The field day rules for participation are on the ARRL website...
I printed them out before hand... and they do vary a bit ever so often...
when you go down the listed points, one will be the rules list.
it contains all the instructions...
that is what you use to determine your class of...
each activity within the hobby has its own purpose and appeals to different folks. My own interests have changed over the years, and is different from time to time within the year.
Scout day, kids day, field day and contesting each have their appeal to different folks for different reasons.
The...
well, to cut soup-man a bit of slack, he did not know that amateur radio has been my hobby for 55 years.
I have been to more field days than I can count, I have worked with the red cross and other organizations, I have done numerous events with the boys scouts and have demonstrations at...
The rest of your post had me wondering if you were trying to educate me or chastise me. Neither worked.
I was left wondering by your post if you actually enjoyed your field day this year and why you went with the group you did, considering the way you feel about them?
This year I decided to do things a bit different. I did not go to any of the local clubs field day activities, I set up in my back yard and the wife and I did our own field day.
I had a go box and rotatable portable all band dipole I wanted to try out and figured field day would be the perfect...
I am kind of partial to working with kids...I got my interest in Amateur radio as a kid back in 1961 and have really enjoyed it over the years...why not pass on something that a kid can do for all of his life...doing a good deed for the kid, and the hobby at the same time.
I think the only time they were at all bored was while the old man did a last minute check of the bands to see where the best place to start off calling CQ Kids day would be...
Then it was time to get on the air... we did a bit of HF and a bit with repeaters...I think their biggest thrill was with linked repeaters Molly talked to a Ham from Alaska who was mobile at the time...
we started the day with a bit of familiarizing them with CW. Each kid was taught how to send their name in CW with a straight key. I was surprised how much they seemed to enjoy it.
One of my favorite Ham radio activities is getting kids involved.
I had a great time this year when I had my niece bring her kids over for kids day.
They were visiting here in Porter Texas from their home in Alaska.
I am posting a few pictures of our day.
at the end of the day we gave each...
absolutely it is fun... that is why there is an extra pulley and rope off my tower and why I keep lots of temporary poles to set up around the yard... I regularly build antennas to play with...and compare to one another... I have a box full of wire antennas that I keep... then come field day if...
no problem, having reread my poorly worded post, I can understand how you felt that way..
no, your advice was good...
my first mobile was back in 1961, it was a heathkit lunch box 6 M....and i have had lots of radios and antennas since then...a low SWR does not mean the antenna is a good one, a...
what I meant by playing games was in reference to legal operation on the 11 meter band....and thanks for the insult...if he operates legal, on channels and with legal power... the added effort and expense is NOT going to be anything really noticeable by the folks on the receiving end... if he...
if you are running legal.. forget about all that...
get an analyzer and start trimming that 108" down...
you will wind up some where around 102" for the 11 meter band...if you are playing games, then follow the advice fourstringburn gave you... an analyzer and a field strength meter are your...
Thanks for your concern. Your point and quote are valid. I do have 3 trucks set up the same. This is the only one with an amplifier though, the other two are just the radio and tunner, though those tuners are automatic and all work fine for my needs. I have had screwdriver antennas on a couple...
I understand your concern. I thought about that too and built a choke coil in line at the antenna... tested it both ways, with and without the choke and surprisingly it works just fine. I have had the same issue at power with end fed antennas before too...worked fine at 100 watts and got...
