Too bad he didn't have a gun to protect himself.
For those in the US get used to that, uselessly chatting on the phone with the police while someone trys to kill you will soon be the norm here too.
Handheld CBs in a car are barely line of sight (can you say faraday cage?)
Antenna needs to be on the outside of the car.
In the case an alternative would be a bullhorn, cheaper than CB handheld with no external antenna and probably talks further.

Did some quasi scientific testing . . . .
Tip top of IMAX level with plane of dipole hung in attic.
Locals hitting me at 9 using the IMAX, barely moving needle on dipole.

But it seems like good practice to have everything set up for knobs turned all the way to the right.
The 400 idea sounds interesting though; using the more effective power level means fewer...
Look up ram mounts.
They have a laptop mount that bolts to the passenger seat bolts with a post the comes up. Mount a different platform on the post (they make a universal one for ham equipment) and you are good to go. Maybe $150 though.

Issue for me was the length of the whip - having that big whip from the 1000 or 5000 on top of an already big pickup . . . . well I might have to hang a warning light on it for airplanes.
I like mine but no basis for comparison Vs the other models.
