That's good to know...thanks. :thumbup1: I haven't used my 2820H as a receiver yet (other than the ham bands) but one of these days I'll spin the dial and see if it auto-selects AM.
As Jazzsinger mentioned, this isn't isolated to just the "freeband" area of the spectrum. I have read of others hearing/seeing it on the 20m and 80m bands. I have personally heard it on 20m.
Is that where that started? I remember some of the superbowl talkers around here filling their trunks with buckets of water/rock salt and claiming it would give them an extra 250+ watts of power. What really made me laugh was when they sat a bucket full of the mixture next to the base of their...
There's not a lot to it - just point and click...lol. I mainly use it to check propagation. Sometimes I'll throw a CQ out or respond to a call, but it can get boring after awhile.
I just checked my inbox over at eqsl and I got my confirmation from Stan, LZ2STO. Yes, I blocked out my call. The...
I've been playing around with JT65-HF for a little over a week now. It's very similar to WSPR. I've made a few contacts, but mainly use it to check propagation. Yesterday afternoon I rode the gray line from Washington State into Bulgaria and made contact with LZ2STO at 23:14z on 20m. I was...
Some good info posted and linked to. The only thing I can add is if you do happen to bugger up the lamp holders a rubber grommet works great as a replacement. ;)
I just did a quick search on this "mod", and what it does is allow you to access the service mode menu. Unless you have the proper test equipment I wouldn't be changing any settings, especially the PLL REF that is displayed when you first enter service mode:
Ote and note: Yaesu VX-7r Service...
The Internet key is the one at the lower left position on the keypad. TX PO LK is directly above it, and the letter D is to the left of it. I haven't tried the mod you speak of, but might just for grins and giggles. :D
I always take the manufacturer's gain specs with a grain of salt...or two. I do know that the addition of the SMA-24 and tiger tail did help a bit for both rx/tx to distant repeaters. There's one approx. 20 miles away that I could hit with the original rubber duck from my front yard, but I...
I ended up purchasing the Comet SMA-24 also. For a "tiger tail" I used an old telescoping antenna and a small piece of metal. A hole was drilled in one end of the metal to fit snuggly onto the SMA connector, and a smaller hole was drilled in the other end of the metal for a screw to pass through...
Actually, satellite comms aren't as easy as using a repeater since you're trying to hit a moving target. Same thing applies to meteor scatter comms. It may be lame to some, but for others it can be fun and rewarding. Different strokes for different folks.
Good advice - you can pick the same radio up at HRO for $159.95 w/free shipping. As kd0fqx noted, Universal Radio has it for $154.95 + $9.95 shipping. Heck, the money saved on the price of the radio will just about pay for a decent 2m antenna.
When using electrical tape for sealing purposes it's a good idea to start at the bottom and work your way up the connector. That way the seams overlap and prevents water migration.
