I don't do a.m. just ssb so for me the caps work really well.. my voltage stays very stable during s conversation .. i am also feeding the amp via the cap with a dual battery setup in my diesel pickup using a heavy full 8 gauge wire not exceeding 10 feet also plagerized from the car stereo boys...

yup just listen to the brothers on ch 7 and ch 19 they got the conversational skills mastered .. they be shooting the big skip !! xxx

always practice safe skip shooting and always use a prophylactic device when shooting skip ...xxx

I am running a 980 into a palomar hd 250 fet with 4 watts dead key with no issues and good reports on am and very good on ssb ..ssb swinging to 14 or so.. did up the modulation among other things .. go till ya blow !!! xxx

you could always run a big assed capacitor between the battery and your amp like the car audio guys do .. I am using a 2.0 farad cap rated @ 12-16 volts in front of my texas star and it seems to work well ... also will filter some noise out ..good luck .. xxx

mr. roccobones you might also consider a anytone at-6666 ... I have one in my 2016 Nissan titan that works very well as it is compact and fits in tight spaces... it also is a very reliable, very stable radio that sounds sood on am or ssb ...I get great on the air reports and it works well with...

I have both a 2950 and a 2970 ... both radios function flawlessly ..they are totally stable on ssb with absolutely no drift.. on air reports are very good with the stock mics ... both have had the frequency expansion ... i run the 2950 thru a 650 superstar with no issues but the rf power is...

that's why I have 2 well tuned 2950's for the serious stuff .. I agree with you completely...

I got mine to swing to 12 watts on side ssb and have a 4 watt dead key on a.m.. use a quality power mic and it works very well with either a texas star 350 hdv or any of several palomars .. I am not proud but wanted to see if the gutlass wonder was good for anything besides a weather...
