    Sweet16

No, you will not hurt it. In fact, you will actually help the longevity of the amplifier by not running it to the max. Its been my observation that the sweet sixteen reaches 1200 with 60 watts drive. After that, the amplifier really begins to heat up and you start to see diminishing returns with...

rohn bx 64 and dual polarity yagi or quad plus 5/8 vertical

I have a bx 64, and am trying to figue how to arrange a 4 element yagi or quad plus a vertical. I can get a 21 foot mast and 4 foot of that will be nested in the tower and rotor, so that leaves 17 foot above the apex of the tower. I dont like the thouhght of all that mast above the tower. I...

Interested in your comparison of the performance. I am thinking of buying a 4 element Lightning Quad

Any way to improve Galaxy DX99V on SSB?

Keep the limiter intact and properly align the radio. This will likely be all that is needed. However, If you want the best this radio is capable of stability wise, build an oven. This will essentially give you a TCXO........of sorts. By heating the crystals and vco componets, they will be less...

What is the function of a variable....

The RF from the radio enters the amplifier. Then, a piece of wire or coax carries the RF to either a potentiometer or a switched resistor bank that is attached to ground. some rf passes to the driver or final of the amplifier, some is bled off to ground. These are primitive ways of implementing...

    Understanding solder types

Eutectic will be the best in 99% of all cases. The reason for that is, there is no plastic state. The plastic state is the inbetween state of liquid and solid. when there is no plastic state, that means there is little to no chance of a disturbed solder connection. We use 63/37 for all soldering...

    Okay, Here's Your Challenge: A 6mhz Bandwidth 10~11M Vertical

Somthing to think about in this discusion and why this is more challenging, is the physical wave itself. The dimmensions of a wavelength from 140 Mhz to 146 Mhz means less of a change than from say 26 Mhz to 32Mhz.

    Co-phase amplifiers?

Yes we are on the same page, Thats why I said maintain proper load....hence each amplifier seeing a 50 ohm load

    Co-phase amplifiers?

Hes talking about combining two amplifiers. As long as the load equals 50 ohm for both amplifiers and both leads heading to the T are equal lengths (phase matched), then the velocity factor will not matter. Velocity factor would come into account if you were using different types of coax or feed...

What kind of Local distance? 10/11 meters.

I am using a kenwood ts 480hx (220 watts peak ) and a maco 5/8 vertical at 43 feet. on SSB I talk about 150 miles with some regularity. For everyday converstations with some reading on the S meter, about 60-75 miles.

    Co-phase amplifiers?

Velocity factor wont matter much as long as both leads of the T are of the same type and length.

    Co-phase amplifiers?

Another very important aspect is the phase angle of the "harness" or combiner used. A scaler network analyzer will be needed to ensure the two legs on the splitter harness are within 0-5 degrees of each other and the combiner legs are within 0-5 degrees of each other. Otherwise, you run the risk...

ok guys finished my wilson 5000 vs radio shack antenna test

I would suspect the wilson would outperform the rat shack antenna by a small margin. Given that their whips are the same length, The tightly wound coil on the ratshack is acting more like a wire wound resistor than the wilsons substantially wider coil. If tested in a controlled enviroment I bet...

    Lightning Antennas????

LIGHTNING's "True CB Quad" Antennas Has anyone dealt with this company? I understand they are the offshoot of signal engineering. I was just wandering if anyone has tried their antennas. I inquired about the SFS feed system and this was the response I got from them. So far they have been good...

    Hey Dummy; that's a Load . . .

I second the Palstar DL2k or DL5k. The meter reads dead on with my lp100a and I have yet to get this sucker warm. Even with 3300 watts being fed into it!!

Rework of 3cx3000 input and output circuit

Also,Might wanna relocate a few componets away from the inductors. There should be nothing metallic within 1/2 the diameter of the coil. Just a rule of thumb to help keep down on stray mutual inductance. At certain power levels you might see a change of inductance do to coupling with those...

What is the function of a variable....

All these variables do is bleed off a certain amount of rf from your radio to ground. they are just variable resistors. You can install them in any solid state amplifier as long as the input is kept at 50 ohm.
