whats ya'lls opinions on this rig?? I am loving the rx, and tx is a beast from the reports I am getting. .5-18w on dk and 120w pep.

Jim, I have the same problem. I got a 25gtl virgin off ebay for 11 bucks. She has the same exact symptoms (except for pa, didnt try that). I dont notice the noise much when I am rx signals but as soon as you turn the volume down its still there.

I have noticed that too, that guy on ebay selling the channeled/echo 959's is making a killing!!!

excellent ssb radio, excellent ears, great feature that saves your 5 favorite channels on freq. and mode. I am getting another one.

i knocked off the 10k yesterday on a jack n the box drive thru. I had clearance on the shaft but the stinger bent back a bit. No big deal but the corona ball got wedged in just right under the canopy and when I left I thought I was good but the 10k pulled the quad mag right off the cab and...

I would drill into the brick, seems like it wouldnt break down as ez.

you must be an am'er then. those icom's sound sweet on ssb.

Get the tallest antenna you can get away with, usually less coils the better. a dual coil would just be there to shorten overall length.

I know one thing, I dont have to worry about driving under tree limbs near as much with the 10k because the stinger is much more flexible than the monkey. That and I just love the looks of the 10k much more than the monkey.

that would be a no brainer, and the icoms would be so much more of a radio too.

my local tech had a 900 in his shop last week for $500. It looked to be in excellent shape.

sweet ass looking truck!! I used copper braid that I stripped off old coax as audioshockwav suggested.

the DSC works good if you are running with someone thats fairly close.

thanks for the reply, I was also reading about the yaesu atas-120. seems like there is mixed reviews on it but looks interesting. I might have to consider it when I got mobile. can the 857 be opened up to cover 11m as well? (i know its technically illegal). just curious :wink:
