    I got my callsign!!

To the moderator that deleted my post: At least pass the message along to the person that I intended it for. To the rest of the board: I posted a warning to a particular member that included his Ham call in a post. The warning was that, once someone has your call, your name and address are...

    HF

I check into the Nootime Net on 7.265, most days, before noon Pacific Time. The net runs from 9:30 to about 3:30 Pacific time. My truck is in the shop right now, but I should have the HF antennas back on next week. I talk to Jim, W7FHZ, all the time, so you should be no problem. We can make a...

    homebrew antenna question

Sorry, FreeCell. Doc is right;you are wrong. Although there is not an appreciable difference (Noticeable at the received end) between the two on 11 meters, the difference becomes more apparent in the VHF an UHF ranges. The reason is "ground wave", which diminishes with increased frequency...

Whats this coax in a fruit jar stuff?

While this will not work if you have direct strike, it will prevent the static build-up from jumping to your equipment and destroying sensitive components. A better solution is to get an antenna switch which grounds the unused positions and has a grounded off position. Rich

    Drop Voltage!!!!

If you use a zener diode, don't forget to use a current limiting diode, calculated for 25-40% of the continuous current rating for the diode, at the diode's voltage rating. Rich

The problem with the 1/2 wave coax is: What is a 1/2 wave? The OP has admitted that he is not up to snuff on radio theory, so is unlikely to be able to determine the proper length of coax. There are too many variables here. Foam, or solid? RG-8X, RG-58, brand differences, etc. Did you...

    alinco dx 70 th

I still run a DX-70T as a backup rig. I bought it new in 1995 and ran it mobile for about 5 years. Had to retire it from mobile use when I started driving the newer computer run trucks. The noise blanker is worthless in it, but that is the only complaint that I have. By the way, my IC-706MkIIg...

    Next Question

The point of my " ", was that it is not changing the feedpoint impedance at all. Rather it is allowing the radio to "see" an acceptable load, so that it will put out full power. The mismatch at the antenna still exists. The "transforming" length of coax is only part of the total...

Just go with the shortest length that will fit your installation, tune your antenna for the lowest SWR and enjoy. Even if your antenna has an impedance as low as 30 ohms, your SWR will only be 1.67 to 1 and will not hurt your performance to any noticeable degree. There are those here that...

    Do I need guy wires?

If it is Rohn 45G, you are probably OK. If it is Rohn 25G, I would guy it. Dump the EMT and go with heavy wall pipe. 25G is 12 inches across the face. 45G is 18". Rich
