Ground loops can do funny things with audio. A good practice when running separate ground and shield wires, is only ground the shield at the equipment end.

If you are a member of the ARRL, they will help with a letter to PG&E that will give them a little "kick in the pants". Also, don't be bashful about mentioning the FCC and Part 15. Below is an ongoing case that the ARRL is involved with:

Beetle is correct. Also, don't wait for the "perfect" antenna to come along. Get something up now and dink with it. Experiment and learn. The signal from a poor antenna is many times better than the the signal from the one on the drawing board.

Also, look at these:
The All-Band Center-Fed Inverted-L
Straightening Out the Inverted-L
Also, consider feeding the antenna with ladder line, or open wire and place the balun just outside your shack. This will greatly increase the usefulness, bandwidth and efficiency of your antenna...
Or so who says? This kind of blanket statement is what is wrong with the radio world (CB & Ham). Myths, rumors, hearsay and just plain wrong information. What length of feedline is used? What type of feedline is used? What brand of feedline is used? These are just some of the conditions that...
If you are not tech minded enough to figure it out, then you probably should not attempt to build them. There are too many variables for me to explain it easily. You have an SWR of 1.5:1 as it sits and it will not make any difference that anyone will see, if you get it any lower. Please just...
Before you replace the resistor, you need to figure out what caused it to release the smoke and cease working.
Once the smoke is let out of an electrical component, it will not work. I have tried to repressurize components with smoke, but have been unsuccessful in bringing them back to life...
Since you are not willing to accept a mismatch of 1.6:1, and are trying to achieve perfection, I suggest that you use a twelfth-wave-transformer. This will match your 50 ohm coax to 75 ohm coax, or load. It is much easier than using a quarter wave matching section. I have used this method for...
The mismatch between the antenna and the coax will only result in a 1.6:1 SWR and will not impact the performance of the radio in a significant way.
The big question should be, what kind of antenna are you using on 11 meters, that has a 75 ohm impedance?

Hmm, I just tried the link and it works here. Let me know if you still want the schematic and I will download it to my FTP site and send you a link.

You do have a point about the awards and mag. Too bad that there is not some kind of reciprocity between RAC and ARRL. That way we could support our own organizations and get the benefits of the other. It would be like supporting your local repeater and talking on another when you travel.
Rich
Kinda makes me laugh, QRN. You hate the ARRL and can't see the benefit of being a member and then you cite them as an expert source in another post. I'm am a long-time member and also support the Spectrum Defense Fund. Money well spent, IMHO.

Yeah, I didn't think that just the WARC mod would give him 11 meters, but hey, it was one wire.
Not much info out there, Datsun. Sorry we can't be of more service.
