What Wire Weasel said.......just whatever options you want on a radio, up to you. I picked the 29 cause I was only an AM'r.....I am also not a big echo guy, pick your weapon. Run them both and see which one gets the best reports!
I have a Cobra 29 Black Chrome, with mosfet, does a real clean 40 watts, that I will never give up. But, I am not an export fan either. The General can be a good radio if it is set up properly by a good tech. Dont get an audio monster hack job, it will sound like crap!
Wouldn't hold my breath. I agree thats what the lowlifes need, but sometimes our justice system can be really screwed up. Saddens me to see this kind of thing on our great country.
I think you meant to ground the antenna mount, not the actual antenna. That being said, what you are looking for is a good (ground plane) under the antenna. Metal mass that makes up the other half of the antenna system. How and where are you mounting?
That meter is sweet Robb..........all you have to do is flip it and PRESTO, you have either vertical or horizontal polarization, the only thing I don't like about mine is, it don't seem that sensitive. I wouldn't even see the needle wiggle with a 1 watt dk 20 ft in front of my truck. Thats with...
What Mack said Killer. I am curious to see what the new meter shows, but thinking about it now, I believe he is pretty much on track with the suggested output. If you were to have a trusted tech do a peak and tune, and give that radio a good alignment, upgrade your amp power wires to 4 gauge at...
Good thoughts wavrider, My question would probably be aimed more at a mobile application, a scenario where the antenna would be hardmounted to the roof of the vehicle. The feedline being connected with lug terminals, a little more difficult. I guess in this situation a balun would work fine...
So..........."checking the impedance of an antenna, at the feedpoint, is never easy." I believe that statement has been quoted many times. My question is what is the easiest way to accomplish this using an analyzer, such as the MFJ 259B? How about some ideas on how some of you guys do that. Is a...
Like has been said.........Nothing like a Cobra 29 properly tuned, give me a Cobra 29 an a 2 pill amp and I will harrass a BIG Galaxy all day long!
Oops, just reread the post, the big box is 2 2879's in the driver section, My opinion is still the same tho........if you hit it with more than 20 watts or so you are going to saturate the pills in the drive section, and you are right........you won't see a big change on the final output
Seriously man, those 2 2290 transisters only need to be hit with about 20 watts to see their full output, anything more than that will only create heat and bad harmonics.........
