I use the bowl when i first turn on the radio to know if dx is working at all. i think it has its place just like ham radio. Not everyone likes forumla 1 some people prefer tractor racing like the other guy said. No one getting hurt s o sit back and enjoy the mess :) I been on the radio for 25...
980 is more stable but no extra freq and while audio is good, not booming. Won't swing like 979 especially on AM. 979 has lots of mods available.
I like the 979 cause it's easy to match with amps, has variable power. 980 is a great SSB radio with clean audio but less you can do to it.
Just run your power in the mobile, problem solved :)
Or keep your powersupply, radio/amp in file cabinet drawer and use a quick disconnect on your base everytime you done talking just unplug antenna, then they inspect and no antenna hooked up, no equipment in view.
Problem is if the feds are...
I got mfj adapters, I had ordered both nmo to 3/8 and nmo to so-239. Worked like they supposed to used 3/8 model with old base load steel whip I had. After tuning 1.2 barefoot and 1.4 at 225w. The adapters seem good material.
Awesome. If the existing mount wont do the trick those certainly will. Thank you for the link! Glad to know the type of stuff I was asking about is out there.
the nmo mount was already on the car, the hole in the trunk is bigger than standard cb mount like 3/4 hole so can't just swap it out. That's why I was going to try to use existing nmo mount. Just wanted to run my 2 pill amp not looking to blast out power. nmo antennas usually only rated for 150...
#1 existing nmo is hard mount already that's why I want to use it
#2 Ive installed lots of amps so I know what I'm doing
#3 not looking to run 600 watt just want to run a 2 x 2879 amp
#4 I run ssb on cb band and am licensed ham so no need for those type comments
Anyway neither comment...
I got NMO mount on a vehicle and wondering if any NMO antennas can handle more than 150-300 watts?
All ones I see are midland/larsen/other and all seem to be rated 150-300w which means really only 75-150 watts. So not really want to even run a 2 x 2879 into them.
I like the NMO mount but not...
I've picked up bunch of 142s 139s and usually $50-75 at garage sales. I wouldnt pay over 125 total for either unless it was new in box. Great radios though, stable and good audio.
Over hills and terrain 40 miles - no guarantees. Cell phone is best bet if towers there.
A cb setup would need to have quality mag antenna on roof of truck - sirio 5000 performer, export radio (so you can go to quiet freeband freq), 400 watt amplifier, and even then no guarantee on hilly areas...
Will do solid wattage for SSB contacts. Not as stable as a optima but once it warms up will work fine. Good audio on SSB and AM as along as it hasnt been hacked up.
For that price I'd buy it and I don't have any use for one. here is a video showing one
[QUOE="kaos513, post: 511752, member: 41055"]Hello guys someone gave me a cobra 21 ltd classic i opened the bottom of the radio to clean it out and one orange wire from the power switch came off the board but was still attached to the switch does anyone know where that orange wire goes on the...
I needed a mast last year but felt like they were all too expensive for what they were. Went to home depot and they have the chain link fence rail where the one end is slightly crimped to fit into the next section. Bought a couple of 12' sections and drilled holes and put some quick disconnect...
