I like that TRC-435, i am in a situation where i want to put a CB in the wifes car. i tried a Cobra 25 and then my PC-122 becasue i wanted SSB but both are too big to reasonably fit anywhere. i have reserved myself to some sort of compact radio like a 510 or 505, with maybe a cheap RM Italy...
I know a guy near Princeton, that I have had fix a few of my radios. He flys under the radar old school style working out of his basement but I think he does good work. Pm me and we can talk more about it if your interested.
Exports in general will take some getting used to, as will SSB if your not used to it. The learning curve is not too steep though. Can't go wrong with either radio mentioned, it comes down to preference. The stryker seems a little high priced for what you get, but from what I understand the...
My local tech claims he has had a few failed N2's come across his bench, says that they don't stand up too well to abuse. If it was me I would run it at 3/4 output, the guy on the other end won't likely notice the difference anyway. And I would make sure the SWR was as low as possible also, some...
Co phasing does very little performance wise, and you can't co phase different antennas. I don't think you really need more than 500 watts anyway. You can talk all over the world with 100w when conditions are right. Unless you are doing key down contests it is unnecessary in my opinion. Get the...
Even if it is a soft top, there has to be some sort of steel support in the corner. I would blame that on your issues with the shorter antenna. The other 4' must be junk
Where is the antenna mounted? If part of the antenna is being "blocked" by the vehicle, it may explain why the shorter one won't tune. If A higher percentage of the overall antenna is being affected by the vehicle body.
I like my 979 too for all the reasons you listed, I am very thankful for the display dimmer, Those LED's are bright! I only wish I could find a frequency display for it cheaper.
Twice I have almost pulled the trigger on a Super Star 158edx, but other things keep coming up so I don't have the $. IMHO they are hard to beat, for the price.
I was just curious, I was wanting to buy a new radio but it dosent look like that is going to happen. I was thinking of just getting a little more power to put behind what I have for now. The 400 seems to fit the bill, but everywhere you read people have good things to say about the TS amps for...
Thanks for your reply I had a lot of the same thoughts, and I would have liked to see more test equipment also. I couldn't find a website, thought maybe someone here would know something about them. Mostly I thought it was interesting. The way he has the fans set up and the compact size would be...
Coax loss can be a factor if the signal isn't making it to your radio, this link may be of some help to you.
Coaxial Cable Attenuation Chart
Also, it is of some value to chase RF noise. If you can quiet your station, you will be able to hear more people. For example at my place the fish...
