If one carefully reads an SD1446 spec sheet one will not recommend one of these devices for linear amplification.
Pay close attention to the drive power verses output power graph. It is not linear over any range. The graph should have a constant slope at least somewhere.
These devices are...
Snap on ferrites on everything going into the radio. Power lead, antenna cable, mic wire, etc.
Or try it one at a time. Depends if you like a good expelliment;)
Magnetic loops can provide excellent results but be aware of the RF exposure around them. Short loops have a much higher level of near field intensities than a dipole.
My vote is for RF getting back into the radio somehow.
A slight drift on AM will not be noticed plus the constant carrier means less dynamic power out.
A conjugate match is a device which contains components possesing an equal and opposite reactance of that in an AC load.
Example:
Your short mobile antenna is capacitively reactive. It has an impedance of 65 -22j. An inductor with a reactance of +22j will allow all of the RF power to reach...
Thanks for posting the pictures. The manufacturing areas are impressive.
Any more of the test range? Turntable? Test equipment?
It would be a lot of fun to see a MOP of Sirio doing a test of CB type antennas.
I used to live 2 miles from Phelps Dodge's range.
I think you can lose the DC to AC converter and power the radio with 12 volts.
Some of those inverters are very noisy and might be plugging your ears.
Otherwise look for the usual antenna loose connections. Swap your radio to another station to eliminate it as a problem.
Not sure about the 394 but if it's anything like the DX-440 a chunk of wire works.
Problem is these radios do not have adaquate front end bandpass filtering so a really good antenna will make unwanted stuff appear.
With all the noise generating devices in the home and neighborhoods...
