Amp reduces gain when going from standby to operate

Remove the keyup lead. If it stops, your keying lead is grounding the internal relay circuit causing it to pull up. All the standby switch does is prevent the internal relay from operating. If you lose your receive without the keyup connected, there is an internal issue. Good luck.

    Understanding amp designs: Texas Star

On the tube types that were used in these amplifiers, they were mostly a muti-elment type called a Tetrode that needed a screen supply. The tube types were usually from television use where linearity was not a issue as it is for RF power application. As well, the screen supply circuits were...

    Understanding amp designs: Texas Star

The original poster has asked about things that require very involved answers. 1. Filters are required to attenuate harmonics produced and passed through the amplifier that could cause interference to other equipment and services at other frequencies. 2. Intermod distortion is produced within...

    SWR?

The meter is designed for 50 to 150 mhz right on the front panel. On radio AM mode, meter set to 20 watts should see the carrier. With the key down, SWR set to forward, make the calibrate setting then switch to reflected power. It should show any reflected power. If not the meter circuit...

    What 2Meter beam to get

What needs to have attention paid is what signal strength you get from the repeater. If near full strength on your radio but the other stations are still in noise is not your problem. It's the other station not getting into the repeater receiver with enough signal. If your high as in...

    FM broadcast... tubes for hams

Yes you have been out of touch a long time. There are vertually no glass tubes made in America any longer. The 3-500 and 572 are all made in China. Most FM and TV transmitters are all solid state into the hundreds of Kw range. They use push pull modules with combiners in and out of get to...

    Carbon resistor help

The photo in the first post looks like the resistor lead was stressed too much when mounted and broke apart from age right at the end from heating and cooling over time. The other colorations are normal dirt and migrations from heat effects.

    Russian Tubes and QRO Parts

Hello Dr. Alex, Nice to hear from you. Sorry to hear of Paul's position. I am the Ham who bought your GS36B tubes for use on 6 meters. The amp used a 4cx250 originally and converted to your GS36B. It's a plug in with reset bias and larger cooling sleeve as long as the power supply will...

What's being so hard to the programming? You start in the VFO mode, dial in the frequency, the offset sign, the PL Tone and power level you want, then tranfer it to an MR number. All you need to remember is the 3 Menu number of 21 the offset direction, 27 the PL tone selection and 28 set tone...

    SWR problems

The output impedance of an amplifier continiously changes with drive and output level changes. As the frequency is moved, the match also changes. As the antenna match changes with frequency, the amp output impedance see this change. They all inter-act. Once you set up at one frequency, the...

    How to test Cans.

The cans are interstage coupling transformers. They are designed to tune a specific IF frequency. Many are 455 khz or 262 khz but may be other frequiencies. Some are center tapped. Sometimes the center tap is not used in a peticular circuit. Unless you know what frequency they are they won't...

    4cx250B

With operating voltage so far out of the norm and no metering, how do you expect to see what's going on? This tube requires a closed chassis on the bottom side with a forced air blower to cool the anode fin assembley up through the socket. Do you have that kind of blower and not just a fan...
