    Need an oscillator or 2....................

Been following this thread for a bit now and thought it was time to chime in: I travel the interstate route daily, very near to Musky1963 and likely this is the same clown who is wreaking havoc on ch. 19 for us drivers. The only difference for us is we have to tolerate him for several miles...

Midland 79-290 PC board adjustments...? Guide needed!!

CLICK HERE for a detailed thread on the 79-290. Plenty of info. already discussed and exchanged if you take the time to read the 4 pages worth. There are board pics and major component/adjustments identification. Some parts remain a mystery as it's almost impossible to obtain service literature...

    Midland 79-290 opinions..........

A proper peaking should yield around 27-30 watts PEP for AM and considerably higher for SSB (40 w+). The average Joe wattmeter will not indicate the truth!

    Paint can dummy load?

I have one I made in the eraly 90's. Uses a quart sized can, high wattage resistor array, filled with mineral oil. SO-239 needs to be sealed with caulk to eliminate oil from seeping out. Lid is soldered shut to the can as well. Conservatively rated for 100w.

    Midland 79-290 opinions..........

I have mentioned it in the past about applying Z-9 or equiv. to the pwr. components that are mounted to the heatsink. It certainly won't hurt as long as it's done properly and cleanly. That was one of the very first improvements I made to my 79-290.

    Midland 79-290

OK - here goes for those that are confused about channel expansion for the 79-290 v1.1 (use a low wattage solder pencil w/ fine-point tip !!!) STEP 1. Remove power from the unit. STEP 2. Remove top & bottom covers ( RF pwr. adjustment). STEP 3. Remove control head unit since this is...

Need schematic diagram for a Uniden PC33

I seem to remember seeing that in there somewhere. I'll remove the cover once again grab that number and post it here. Radio is for wife's car during short day trips. I kind of like that little radio since it has the switchable NL, led indicators/meter, and belts out a respectable signal all...

Need schematic diagram for a Uniden PC33

very, very low modulation - so low it takes a scope to indicate any! I started to draw a partial diagram of the mod. circuit by following the traces and component junctions but it started getting time consuming for the worthlessness of that particular radio. Need a diagram to make servicing...

Need schematic diagram for a Uniden PC33

I've searched, even using a pretty powerful search engine better than Google and all that comes up are sites that charge for a schematic or service literature. Was hoping there'd be a site offering a schematic for free that somehow got overlooked. The radio has a modulation problem and...

Need schematic diagram for a Uniden PC33

Been searching without success for a FREE diagram for a Uniden PC33. Is there anywhere on the net that provides a diagram for that model, as well as free service literature for other CB radios for that matter? Thanks

    New Tower installed

I'm curious as to why you went through all that fab to hoist it vertical? I see the guage of metal is thick, but is it that heavy that two people can't simply walk it up? My tower was a hinged 30'er and just two of us walked it up and then the long center mast post was pushed up manually, then...

    Midland 79-290 opinions..........

I really recommend getting away from this notion that a radio has to have a power mic. to talk. The Astatic noise cancelling or equiv. good NC mic is very adequate once you do the simple modulation mod by changing the chip resistor to a lower value. Power mics serve to amplify background noise...

Favorite 10 meter radio and why.

to set things straight there always has been much confusion between Ranger Communications Inc. and Clear Channel's two "RANGER" models. I'm speaking of the C.C. RANGER not RCI. Below is pictured both models (note: no rotary channel selector switch)

    Help with static

Shorter power leads are always better. Move the antenna around from front to back of the truck to see where the hot spots are regarding the static. That should help indicate the noise source.

    PC66XL

I guess I'm a minority here and that's ok IMHO. I said I was going out on a limb and I did. Justin, you mean to tell me that you'd rather have a basic radio like that over a nice SSB mobile employing a MB8719 or uPD858 PLL not to mention dual finals, a hefty audio chip and audio circuit that...

    PC66XL

Well, I'm going out on a limb here by saying that the PC66XL isn't all that special of a radio (IMHO). I've been inside one and there are far more mobiles available that have better potential than the 66XL. If you spend some time searching garage sales and hamfests you'll find the good ones from...

    Help with static

Fuel pumps generally do not change in rpm with the accelerator pedal. The fuel is under constant pressure so the pump's rpms don't change. That doesn't mean they don't emit RFI though. Try running your B+ wire from the radio straight to the battery terminal. Get two ferrite beads large enough to...
