    Coily EXCALIBUR Base Antenna

32 feet of double/triple wall T-6 aluminum for a ground plane and stainless hdwr.? That should be quite pricey! Anyone want to buy me an early Xmas present? My questions for Dan @ Mr.Coily are: 1) Are you applying any finish preservatives to the Enforcer's aluminum to retard eventual...

    ar 3300 good or junk

Perhaps on the specialized chips and coils but then, they are robust and made very well. The PLL chip can be subbed with a ChipSwitch so that's one worry put to rest.

    Midland 79-290

Uh, without rereading this entire thread, I thought I mentioned my work and findings on this radio ... maybe not(?). Anyway, I have done the channel and modulation mods and pk/tun. The clarifier mod has yet to be determined as to its viability for the effort. Most other improvements are from a...

    ar 3300 good or junk

Tomorrow, I'm looking at buying a 100w AR3500 up for sale. It's barely used and also has the 12meter ChipSwitch in it. Bird meter indicated 96 watts. Those are super radios. Alot for your dollar ... more than what many other mfgrs. offer IMHO.

Completely new to CB, lots of questions

That is until you get annoyed from avoiding drive-thru windows, low hanging branches or signs, etc. That banging will remind you of that antenna. Hitting it on something while driving at a good clip will kink it or at the very least lose the static tip on its end.

    What will fit?

As much as the Mag 257 is a favorite to some folks, it doesn't have the WX band that he desires so it doesn't really fit the bill. The Midland 79-290 will also give him extra channels (after the mod), has a cast heatsink on the rear, which is great for in-dash installs where heater ducts tend to...

Loud Radio Wanted, What do I need?

Is that a reply to my post just above yours? If it is, I'm speaking of the Midland radio not the Grant! Or I'm missing something here. :?:

Loud Radio Wanted, What do I need?

Not badgering you here, but I'm beginning to wonder if you had a misaligned or problem radio from the get go? I can't complain about a stock mobile radio, whose adjacent channel rejection rivaled a good base outfitted with the Channel Guard Filter.

Loud Radio Wanted, What do I need?

I travel the interstates every day and that's a ripe situation for Rx problems from truckers running amps and tweaked radios. My 79-290 will experience image/spurious issues if the offending transmitter is nearby ... and rightly so. But travel down the road a mere 1/3 - 1/2 mile and receive is...

    Midland 79-290

I'll post this reply (from another thread) here as well, since this thread is dedicated to the 79-290. There is a VR in there for the S meter as well as for Tx side of it, but I can't remember which one it is exactly. Justin might better know which pot is which. Besides, turning it down just...

Re: loud radio There is a VR in there for the S meter as well as for Tx side of it, but I can't remember which one it is exactly. Justin might better know which pot is which. Besides, turning it down just for the sake of local 30db signals will de-accurize it for the weaker ones. There's also...

Loud Radio Wanted, What do I need?

That radio has been yapped about over and over here. The Rx is fine for the most part and prolly better than the Magnum's. That report is somewhat over-critical. Yes the S meter could be improved, but there are plenty of analog meters that are too tight or inherently innacurate via poor...

    backward swing on watt meter

You can buy a used oscilloscope that will also indicate and do more than a $$$ peak reading watt meter. It can also be used for troubleshooting and aligning radio circuits as well. All one needs is a well designed interface circuit to input the RF enevelope, and those are simple to construct and...

    CB Antenna Light

I have some doubts here: Lights are going to crack from getting warm? That seems sketchy since the ionization process creates very little heat in a flourescent tube. Insignificant heat is generated by the tiny filament which stabilizes anyway. The real heat comes from an external starter...

    Galaxy DX 959 Revived!! ;)

The hamfests are full of hacked radios that guys are trying to sell for the sun, moon, & stars. I saw a Cobra 2000 that had a front panel so badly hacked it wasn't even funny. Actual pieces of panel were removed with switches mounted off center. Internal wiring showed poor soldering and...
