I ran one in my big truck for a while, a very noisy intl. 9900. They do an excellent job of cancelling all the noise inside the cab, and have real clear audio, got excellent reports with
it. And they can also be used to fend off thieves and lot lizards because of their weight:D
I went from riding dirtbikes and 4-wheelers, into old jeeps and beat up trucks and back to dirtbikes and 4-wheelers lol. We all always had cb's in our off-road mudders, but never thought of putting one on a 4-wheeler. Would have been pretty handy when there was a big group of us. Or getting to a...
Cool idea! But how well can you hear while running down a trail? Do you wear headphones?
A water proof radio probably wouldve saved me a few cb's when I had my old jeeps back in the day.:)
I guess one of the old tube sig gen's probably wouldn't cut it either?:)
This would be a good thread topic to discuss imo, "tech equipment for the beginner". Some input on lower end, get ya by equipment that someone could learn on.
There are plenty of list out there, like this one...
Its a shame really. I walk into radio shack, and all they wanna do is sell me a cell phone. They're like vulture used car saleman. I guess that's their A game anymore.
Its easier to just buy parts online, rather than waste your time going to radio shack to buy parts they don't have.
I looked on LesComms site today and it said wait times for custom radios is 18-20weeks. WOW!! Did you not see that when you placed your order? Or has it been longer than that?
I've waited up to two weeks for one channel board from LessComm, but it was stated that "the boards are built when...

Well...I guess what you have to ask yourself is, do you feel like a project?
Price isn't too bad, and the printed instructions are a plus.
Hard to tell what you might get into refurbing an old radio though. Pulling your hair out and a lot of cursing is probable:confused:
Give it a go if you...
Kind of hard to offer any help without specifics. You "add a resistor in a certain spot" Where? What value? What is your carrier and peak wattage?
You said your having trouble with a few 29's, has this mod worked on others?
Not trying to hash on you, just need a lil more info so we can help;)
Its tragic what happened to him.
I've seen those shows on the history channel, very interesting shows imo. I particularly like the story on Carlos Hathock, the marine sniper in Vietnam. I bet he had a lot of interesting stories to tell.
Clint Eastwood recently finished a movie on Chris Kyle, the U S Military's deadliest sniper, taken from accounts in Kyle's autobiography.
I'm looking forward to its release in jan 2015. Probably will be one of the rare times I actually go to a movie theater.
Here's a link with info on the movie...
It looks as if someone put an sx-175 power cabinet on that s980. It would be totaly possible to do, lesters customs installs them on galaxy radios. Or maybe they just bolted the heat sink on to make it look good:) I would verify the output on a meter to be sure.
Never bought one of his radios, but I've seen them on his website. Looks like he does good work! His channel boards are top notch(y) Let us know how you like it.
