I worked for many years in solder process in the electronics industry. I understand and agree with the environmental impact of poisonous lead in high volume manufacturing.
I was right in the thick of it when the world went lead-free. It was horrible to try to get that stuff to adhere, and...
I have a Magnum 1, too. Mine is stock except opening it up with the jumper resistor. However, I am still interested in hearing how you got it working well again, so please let us know when you do.
No, I did not do that. Sorry.
I plugged one into the single output of a dual-band radio to split it off into 2 separate amplifiers, one for each band. I plugged another one into the amplifiers to feed one dual band antenna. It works fine, so that's all I did.
I have Comet and Diamond diplexers that have N-connectors on the UHF side pigtails.
I have not put diplexers outside, but I have considered thoroughly wrapping one with self-vulcanizing silicone tape, followed by a coat of liquid tape spray to be sure.
I bought the Magnum 1 because I liked its features, and it would drive my AL-80B to the recommended duty cycle on AM. After some more time, I have the combination working right where it oughtta be for AM, as stated in my last post.
Thanks for the info. Sounds like the 955 is more suitable for driving my amp. Are there any other high power AM transceivers anybody recommends for my application?
I have the Magnum 1, which I like very much. However, it doesn't seem to have enough output to drive my AL-80B amp properly.
Would the Stryker 955HP work better with the AL-80B on AM than the Magnum 1, or do these radios have about the same output?
I recently went though mine, cleaning the contacts & spiffing up the outside. Was beat up when I got it 30 years ago. My first ever desk mic! Always got good audio reports; I love it. Currently in use on my new Magnum 1.
