    VHF amps

Why so expensive? I have no problem with my little 65-75W, but to have 300 would kick ass. Hearing a repeater, and reaching it are very different.

I used his idea to make a single one. Instead of brass rod, a solid core wire will work fro the verticle. I used 1/4 copper tubing, but it was hard to heat without damage to the SO Here.

The power is no real differnece. Never had a 2100, but I think the difference is digital ready and air band AM RX.

    Icom 2200H questions

RX is good, progamming isn't hard, after you do it a few times. I use the mic for all programming. Look at Universal Radio, I think the end cost is 160 after a mail in rebate, free shipping.

    Icom 2200H questions

Go for it. You can hit repeaters alot farther away with it. Don't use a Jpole, use a 1/4 wave groundplane. I have used both, and the groundplane is better, cheaper and lighter. My 2200 scans superfast. It has different banks of memory channels. You can use six alpha characters per memory...

Steam Trains, railfanning, and other stuff!

My Grandpa worked for the IC. One of the few people who witnessed a real coupling accident, no BS. He has his pic in an old Encyclopedia Britanica running a switching yard in IL. Broke his back (literally) on the job. I'll post the pic if I get it.

Spray painting a Solarcon A99 antenna

I did the tape thing. Used black and green. Started at the bottom so the water runs over the tape, instead of into. Can't see it from the road.

    High SWR

You need to check at 144 and 148 first. High at 148, low at 144, shorten. Other way round, lenghten.

What is your favorite 2m/440mhz vertical (omni) antenna?

Yeah, thats a jpole. Had fun making it, teh puny one does as well or better. Gonna be easy to hike it up a bit. I do need to upgrade coax. Loss at VHF is high. ASAP, I'm gonna get LMR 400. Using 8X now, crap for VHF, but I have a bunch laying around.

What is your favorite 2m/440mhz vertical (omni) antenna?

I like this one so far. Cost around 5$ to make. I have Larsens on the cars. Had a Hustler, it broke after hitting a low tree. Working on a 6 ele quad, weather is better, might get it done.

    My tiny station

Went to a 1/4 wave groundplane . Homemade, of course. I like it better than the JPole.
