    Diplexer/Triplexer - freq plot & outdoor use

If you trust MFJ "quality", the MFJ 4946SN may be close to what you're looking for. I've considered the same thing of using a tower mounted triplexer for some 6m, 2m, and 70cm loops. I've not heard of many good things regarding the quality of the cable on those with the pigtails. WiMo out of...

OK Canada Hams need some advice

Look into a QSL bureau. If you're an ARRL member, their prices are reasonable (or not, depending on your point of view) for getting cards to outside the USA. Of course, one cannot force another station to use their buro and some don't want to, can't, etc. To receive your cards requires...

The old FCC issued cb call signs

The 40 channel CBs were available in late '76 and the local stores were closing out 23 channel models in early '77 as I recall. As I wrote in a prior post, we bought CBs for farm two-way radio use in early 1980 and we did have to request a license. Before its five year term was up, the...

    Mastrant antenna rope

On June 16 of this year we had a mesocyclone come through and I'm certain the winds were 70+ MPH. Two good sized maple trees in the front yard suffered considerable damage with one having the main mast trunk snapped off about 15 feet up where the trunk was around six inches in diameter and not...

    MegaWatt S-700-12 switching power supply

For me it is simply the audible noise level that is unacceptable. I recently stopped using a laptop here in the shack to process my weather data in favor of a fanless ARM board as its fan was simply too annoying. When I turn the AF gain down on the K3 I can hear the hum of the RS-50M. I have...

FT8: New JT Mode for fast QSOs

I've been enjoying FT-8 quite a lot since trying it in July. I did a JT-9 QSO the other day and had forgotten that I need to manually select each message. I'm too used to the auto-sequence now!

    Winning awards without competition

To use an overloaded cliche, it is what it is. The certificates are nice. I have many with only a select few in frames on the wall. Some probably say "First place, Kansas section", etc. and when one looks at the results, there were no other entries. As I see it, that's on the other hams in...

MegaWatt vs. Chinese Imitation 30 amp switching power supply comparison

For all of those that have no problem with the fan noise, mine is listed for sale in that section. It has been in the box all of the time since I noted my experience in this thread. It is essentially brand spankin' new.

    MegaWatt S-700-12 switching power supply

I recently purchased a MegaWatt S-700-12 50 amp switching power supply. As MegaWatt vs. Chinese Imitation 30 amp switching power supply comparison']I outlined in this thread[/URL], the fan is too loud for my shack. The supply is new in the box as I received it new from MegaWatt on February 3...

MegaWatt vs. Chinese Imitation 30 amp switching power supply comparison

Can't do that without voiding the warranty as the covers have those labels at the corners stating as such. In my opinion, the design should be such that the fan speed matches the cooling speed. Other switching power supplies I have seen have that capability and when the unit is supplying...

MegaWatt vs. Chinese Imitation 30 amp switching power supply comparison

Well, this was not the review I planned to write when I ordered the MegaWatt S-700-12 last week. In short, I am disappointed. The package arrived on Friday February 3, and I was quite excited. I hooked the power cord to the supply and powered it up to set the output voltage. The fan ran up...

Have you purchased ham gear because of this site? What was it?

I just placed my order for a MegaWatt S-700-12 power supply based on the ad and thread here.

MegaWatt vs. Chinese Imitation 30 amp switching power supply comparison

I just place my order for the S-700-12 based on this thread. I'd been looking at switching power supplies when I saw the ad here and then this thread. So I'm going to take the plunge to replace my bulky and noisy Astron RM-50M.

    PC Monitors

There can be RFI issues. Mostly I have had issues with lines going to interface peripherals and sometimes with the serial line to the radio. Snap-on ferrites of Mix 31 material does a pretty good job of taming that. Good grounding in the shack is essential as is using high quality feedlines...

    PC Monitors

Well, Riverman, find a study guide, take the exam, and join us on the amateur radio bands as well. :) I have two monitors connected to the same computer. The monitor over the radio is where I do things like run the logging program, WSJT-X and Fldigi for digital modes, and do software...

Help making a list of essentials to take to a remote island for DX.

Examine the specifications on any rope carefully to be sure it is uV resistant. Cheap hardware store rope won't last in the sun. Probably only able to be sourced through amateur radio suppliers is Mastrant synthetic rope which so far is holding up very well for me.

It's been a long time since I looked at one. Is there a power control or menu setting that got changed resulting in a lower power limit being set? Most all solid state radios have some control over the transmitter power.
