Is there a way to test the vco? When I adjust it, I can hear it tuning in and out. Nothing audible but hiss.

Its odd as heck. The schematic shows a 5.5v source feeding 1 side ofvthe VCO. There is an output that goes to pin 1 IC201 and it says 2.7v. Hand written. Something doesnt make sense.

Update: tp1 is not adjustable. Its solid at 5.5v and its supposed to be adjusted to 3.6v. When turning the VCO, i can hear shifting as if dialing in a portable AM pocket radio but nothing audible just hissing. Then, there are more issues. The tx light is flickering on and off while in rx mode...

With whats going on with mine, it could very well bevthe VCO.

From what I hear, most people who absolutely love these radios are not technicians and never had to go inside. There are exceptions to this obviously.

I got into it this morning. Looks like someone changed the big cap and cleaned up that part of the board. I do see other leaky caps. Will change them out shortly. I also see a few tantalums that like to short out and take parts with them. I didnt know that they hadca mobile version ofvthis...

I wonder if the cans have caps inside like a lot of newer radios...

I replaced all of them. Unless some are hidden, I got them all. I pretest all the new ones and test the pulls. All the pulls tested within spec then of course tossed. I replaced a few resistors that had signs of overheating. Some values were off. Main plate voltages all tested good. I might be...

Until you have to fix it. Then you will definitely see that the 2000 is in its own class.

Man I appreciate all that insight and manual info. I sure do hope that my VCO block isnt the final problem. I have the board loose and im going to start working on this one soon. I just finished my mk3 set and started on my demco set. Nothing weighs more than flipping a dak x over for repair...
