Worked W4MW earlier on 146.520 from EM59. Easy 5/9 copy. 50 watts to a cx333 vertical at 36ft on my end. 486 air miles IL to NC. Love me some good tropo!

I checked the Hepburn forcast a couple days ago and this weekend looked promising. Starting last night it has been pretty good stuff. From IL EM59 I worked OK and KS last night on 432.1 new grids for me OK new state 432. Grabbed VA on 2m ssb this morning. Also worked into Wisconsin on 1296.1 ssb...

When I still had my HF beam up I worked the world on 15 and 17. 17 had some real diehards that met regularly to rag chew..mostly guys in the western US if I recall. 12 meters always seemed to be a way under used piece of spectrum to me...
I have never seen the need for a preamp under 50 mhz. . Every 11 meter preamp just seems to boost noise along with the signal giving no benefit to the operator.

If it were me I would split the difference. If I wanted to use the entire cb band and most popular voice portion of 10 do a little math. 28.500-26.965= 1.535 mhz of bandwidth is really what you require. Divide that in half and either add that to 26.965 or subtract it from 28.500. 1.535÷2= 0.7675...

It can be amazing what Troposphereic ducting can provide on vhf/uhf. One thing to look forward to in the mornings and evenings during the hot summer months.

Depending on how close you are to the weather channel transmitters will determine how well either will work. The weather radio transmitters around me seem to be pretty stout. Easy to pick up 40 to 50 mile range on a telescopic scanner antenna inside the home.
