Antennas generally are not the cause of TVI. I certainly have never heard of the Top One having any such issue. I had one here for a year or two, no issues with it.
TVI is usually something wrong with your SIGNAL, not the radiator.
That's exactly how I use the Mic Hi/Low feature---on "High" for barefoot or AM with an amplifier, or on "Low" for when I'm running an amp in SSB mode--it cuts my output from 22 watts down to about 15 watts, which is perfect for my little RM 2 x 455 amp! (KL-351p)
Good advice here so far.
Just be yourself and don't try to use a lot of "lingo" and stuff. Just say what you mean in plain language. Some of the mannerisms and terminology you will just pick up as you get to talking to other people.
Talk about your station, what you want out of it and the...
I think the 2510/Lincoln has a much better receiver than the RCI 29xx series radios. Both are sensitive as hell, but the Lincoln/2510 has a much better signal to noise ratio.
I think the TX on the Lincoln / 2510 is second to none in it's class in SSB and FM modes. The 29xx can sound really...
I'm having a bother trying to find them for sale new in the states.
It seems like someone has maybe made off with my Wilson 1000. If I have to replace it, I'd rather go with the Z180 if I can find one for a reasonable price.
Otherwise, I'll just get another W1000....
I agree about John Mahoney and Panther and that whole forum crew. That was where I first got a clue about what's what in the 11 meter CB/Export/10 Meter world. Firebreather, SS8541, and John were SO helpful getting my EEI "Turbo-Tuned" Galaxy DX2517 straightened out and tuned up properly...
It depends on who's doing the tuning. I would recommend some highly, others not so much.
The biggest advantage to having a competent tech with the right test equipment do it is that the receiver will perform MUCH better after a thorough tune/alignment.
Anybody can adjust the deadkey and...
I'm hearing a few signals coming up on 10 this morning---maybe we'll have a little opening today.
I'll be listening on 28.400 and in and out of the chatroom if anyone wants to try to make contact, either on 10 or somewhere else. If I don't respond in chat, I probably stepped away and forgot...
No, it really is that simple to build a cheap, effective antenna. Just get it as high as you can (Don't stop at 36 feet, lol) and you will talk all over the place.
I worked Hawaii and South Africa with a homebrew 1/4 wave groundplane made of scrap wire and an 8 foot 2 by 2. I haven't worked Hawaii or South Africa with my Imax-2000.
This does not prove that my homebrew is a "better" antenna than the Imax. In fact, I am certain that the Imax has higher...
Probably wouldn't be much difference in performance between the Little Wil and that Cobra 1500 Magmount at Dick's. They will both work for rather short distances, but nowhere near what a decent antenna like a Wilson 1000 or K40 would. That's the bottom line.
