    I have heard several 7300's on the air with the stock mic and the sound great,, I have a 7300 mic I use on my 7200 and 7410 and they have plenty of audio punch to run the radios at full power out with the mic gain below 50%

    did you ever say who you are trying to talk to?? other mobile radios on the interstate?? if so then the horizontal yagi will probly not help much because you loose a lot when talking vertical antenna to a horizontal antenna,, what are you using for coax to your A99?? and how far is the coax run...

    I don't think the mfj grand master meter is an actual PEP meter, you need a meter that is powered to measure PEP,, the only thing the power connector is for on that mfj meter is for the back light on the meter

    SWR Question on new radio.

    swr is good on the mfj so the new radio is probly sending out some harmonics not on 27mhz that the swr meter is picking up

    ft891 and atas120a still working fine here, I have been using and tuning it almost every day since I installed it and no issues yet, I did put a longer whip on it, about 12" longer. we will see what happens once the snow falls and it gets frozen

    new ones are made in china and not as good as the older made in japan ones, (watch out some of the clone ones also say made in japan on the back),, also the new hm-219 mic that comes with the icom 7300 is a great mic, better than the hm-36 japan ones and is about $55 new

    probly a sound card internal to the radio or external,,,,, my Icoms are simple usb cable from the radio to the pc and that's it. it is a fun mode, you can make a lot of contacts fast.
