That seems to be sound advice. the resonant dipole doesn't look much more complicated than the long wire.
the antenna tuner is probably the hardest thing for me to come up with. I know they are relatively inexpensive but finding one local is going to be a PITA
just look at the case<
"there are a few extra holes in it." read between the words translates to,
"I don't have a friggen clue what I am doing and just started punching random holes before I realized that the switches would interfere with the parts inside"
"I just run an external Speaker"...
I don't get why he did not leave the radio alone and build a noise toy box and sell them seperately. he would have been spared being damned straight to hell for butchering a great radio. what an ass
ok that helps a lot guys.
first I want to clarify, I have been doing a lot of reading studying on HAM which has a million subjects and have just barely scratched the surface of a lot of them. I havent "studied long wire antennas" persay, more like glanced at them. and looked at a couple...
basicly. I am going to run a wire from the peak of my roof over to the peak of my garage both are solid so a simple spring and insulator at each end can compensate for heating cooling contaraction and expansion. then down in the window to my device I have all kinds of different wires I can use...
I was up on 28.4 listening but I couldn't tune in an well enough to actually understand more than one word in 15. I dont understand why7 I was all up and down on the digits got nothing, tried LSB and USB and couldn't get it in any better that really muffled.
been doing a bit of reading and I was considering the various antenna types as well as their ease to DIY, and figured the long line would probably be the easiest place to start. Like any7 project IME its a good idea to get some experienced help BEFORE starting. so here are a few questions.
1...
the motor is really just a generator for the devices and once they are on cant possibly move the car... LOL
how many alternators DOES he have under the hood?
this may sounds odd but are you sure your antenna connection is functioning? sounds like you may have hit an extremely close contact off you coax reception or some thing. just a shot in the dark.
edit if its only happening on AM then my idea is moot.
I'm prety sure i have everything including the 3 position switch and the so 239's as well as plenty of coaxial and the box and solid face cover. I just wanted to make sure that an extra 1 " of wire for the expanded box wouldn't be highly detrimental to the set up. right now my swr's are 1 to 1...
This is a neat build. I think I may use a similar layout to build a station switch (for changing radios instead of antenna) since I have one antenna and a couple radios and want to switch between them without unhooking every time.
question how much would it hurt to use a slightly bigger box...
keep the coils larger than 12 inches and you are good to go. I would put the ecess coils indoors, since your moving further in with it for convinience as well as to keep more of the coax out of the weather.
I have been doing little playing around, trying to shoot the skip on cb bands, I haven't ventured into 10 or 12 meter yet (you have no idea how hard it is not to when you have a radio that's built for it), I have to get my ticket first, unlike some of the other locals around here (in my home...
Barrel connector installed. swr tested 1.0 to 1.0 perfect tuned. test broadcast hit skip to florida from maine on channel 2 cb band. :w00t::w00t: yes thats a double woot!
Making more progress today, moving the station indoors from the garage to the office so I no longer have to freeze during the 29 degree mornings whilst drinking mty morning joe at 4 am. I can sit here next to the woodstove and listen to all the idle banter aboyut how cold it is out.
Took me...
like the title says, I am (hopefully) getting my ham ticket over this winter, and need to know what are some good 2meter mobiles and base units. not sure yet which I want. mayhap you guys can recommend mobile or base while your at it.
unfortunately as far as antenna goes I am limited on...
I cant go 50 feet unfortunately. by city ordinance if the antenna falls over (they measure from the base) it has to fall short of any power lines by 10 feet. I am at my limit with as high as I went. I would love to go higher but such as it is.
so My antenna has been really low, no biggie really, it's an Imax 2000 so it got decent range anyway, but my truck has almost the same range. soooooo I grabbed some 2 inch steel conduit and sent the base of the antenna up another 20 feet. I hardly recommend trying to stand up and bolt an almost...
