The RT systems USB cable was used by w1med instead of using Yaesu's CT-140. Yaesu has a specific procedure to apply the firmware update. You can not use the RT software. The directions are listed in my post eariler in this thread.
I have uploaded 4 .pdf files showing the procedure to update the FTM-350 firmware. Please note that you require a CT-140 programming cable (DIN8 To DIN6 + DUSB9) to perform the update.
Here is a question, of those of you that have done the extended TX Mod on your VX-8R/DR has anyone compared the performance of the marine frequencies to that of a dedicated VHF Marine HT? If so what was the outcome? I am going to do the mod to my radio if the results are fairly comparable. Thanks
I do have a remote starter/entry with 3000 foot range. I hope that it's not that. I guess this means a lot of trial and error ahead of me.:( Thanks for all the suggestions.

I would suggest getting a "Uniden Voyager" marine VHF. I have one and it is a small radio (3.8 (H) x 2.4 (W) x 1.3 (D) inch). It covers US, Canada and International marine VHF frequencies. The radio comes with a DC charger and a desktop charger. I really like this radio because of it's small...
The radio is connected to the battery. I made a custom 12 gauge Stainless steel antenna mount which is bolted and screwed to the fender. I haven't tried ferrites yet. Where would I put them, close to the radio or to the battery and antenna?

I have a question for the group. Can anyone tell me how I can I stop my radio from locking my van doors every time that I key the mike when transmitting on high power. It also does it when the APRS beacons:oops:. It is dam annoying but kind of funny at the same time:tongue_smilie:. Any...
You may know this already but can change the position comment (Mic-E) by using the E32: Position Comment menu. It is in the APRS/PKT set mode.
I couldn't figure out how to edit the custom tags. Hope this helps a little.

I would suggest the bluetooth chip (BU-1) and headset (BH-2A Mono). I have it and use it with my VX-8DR and my FTM-350. The sound quality is very good. I have been very impressed with it. That way you don't have to fuss with any wires.

In Canada you have to be licensed to use marine VHF frequencies. Having that license could you use a modified VX-8DR to transmit on? You may or may not know, I just thought I would ask.

I would definitely be interested in it. I was thinking about setting up a mini-site myself but if the option is available here I will do that instead.

glad to see you got the DR. You've got pretty much the same options that I did when I got mine a couple months ago. I think that you will like how well the boom mike performs. I was pleasantly surprised although it does look a little dorky when you have it on but were hams not fashion...
