the answer to this question is absolutely yes.
ive done it at least three times.
it's kind of funny to think about just how much experience i have taking these damn channel switches apart.
if anyone is planning on doing this, i HIGHLY suggest you take a million pictures of every step of...
L35 is the coil you need to remove the turns from.
this one:
DX959:
2517 (has dual finals from the factory)
and here is the thread from almost 20 years ago where i did this to my 959.
man i have been on this forum a long time LOL...
hi superlid.
do you mind giving a few details about what happened to the old switch?
im asking because there is a chance it's repairable, or not actually the culprit.
LC
depending on the order you replaced things, and whether or not you tried to TX during those replacements, you could have taken out one or more of your new parts.
this can lead to chasing your tail looking for a problem that you've actually already fixed but still have one or more bad parts...
this is a V2 chassis so there will be no potentiometers on the board.
check that large SMD transistor mounted to the PC board that is just to the right of the big green electrolytic cap.
be aware that if this part is shorted, it could take out other good components, so be sure to check all the...
ive seen it done that way.
it does put you on the wrong side of R293, but its only a 15 ohm resistor.
however, i seem to recall that when i tried doing it that way, i could not get the negative peaks "down" far enough meaning i couldn't get past about 75% "negative modulation" for lack of a...
you'll be fine with the 2sa1012.
and if you're going to add a second final, you should upgrade that AM regulator to something like the 2sb817 or a TIP36.
yeah definitely a good price for that radio!
on the service manual, that's just the ranger way. they intend that manual to be used with every iteration of that board/radio and they just expect the tech to know how to interpret it.
i work on quite a few of these radios, but i really only see...
Yeah ol' Stu sure seems to be trying to cram himself right into the hole that was left by the sudden departure of that one guy. You all know the one.
LC
yes your best bet is to contact the homeowner or the property management company that rents the house out.
if none of that works, then you might try using an old galaxy radio with every limiter clipped feeding into a good old fashioned Cb competition style amp.
you don't care about receiving...
Ira.
Do us a favor and pull that little brown two conductor plug (most likely green and yellow wires going to it) that is just to the left of the mirror board by the driver and final. (i think its J22)
this will disconnect power to the amp portion and you can now see how much power your radio...
Ronnie,
This is how i figured out the dual final mod for the 959 many years ago.
do be careful though, as the jumpers are not all shown in the diagrams and can confuse things.
also, that little coil needs to be converted from a 7 turn coil to a 4 turn coil.
LC
Eldorado828,
I feel your frustration!
Yes, you may have a shorted component that goes from the B+ line to ground, but because this is a Texas Star amp there is another very common possibility.
you may have a component lead on the underside of the board that is too long, or one of those...
not sure there was ever a 6 inch spring mudfoot.
maybe but i can't remember ever coming across one.
the ball mount is 2 inches and the spring is 4, making it 6 total inches.
LC
most likely the final or it's associated bias diode are bad, but that's just guessing.
if you want to try installing a final you can get one here:
https://stores.goldeneagleradios.com/2sc1969c-hg/
you can also remove both the final and the bias diode (thing that bolts to the front of the final...
