trust me guys this radio is deffinetly making power. it's one of those things that you know it when you hear it. i'm being kept in town this week so maybe one night i'll open it up and see if it has a 1969 or a mosfit final in it.
for along time i ran the wilson 4 foot silver load fiberglass antennas, but that got expensive trying to replace them all the time from low flying tree limbs breaking them. so i changed to the 20 dollar 3 foot stainless whips. well since finding these for basically the same price almost twice...
here is a little side note about the RS antenna. my 18 wheeler is set up so my stereo also uses a cb antenna. just for giggles i removed the 3 foot botton load steel whip i normally use for my stereo and replaced it with the 64" RS antenna. the increase in recieve was unbelieveable. since i...
thank you very much for the reply. I didn't pay much for this radio and he didn't elaborate on what mods had been done to it' but it sure sounds good. I put it in the closet with some others as it will be awhile before i can take it to a shop and have someone look at it. it's just the first...
on my way to the truckstop to buy a new road king 56 mic i heard a trucker advertizeing a uniden pc78ltw for sale. i asked if it worked and he said he was talking on it. it sounded good. he told me how much he wanted for it' so i went to take a look. it was hooked up and on when i got there...
thanks for the replys. now for those you don't seem to understand why i had talkback put in it's simple. i know when i'm transmitting. even if my meter quits i can still here myself' so i know i am. I don't intend to be one of those people going break 19 for a radio check. and in this...
no the talkback is not too loud. the problem is since i put a different mic on the radio i'm now getting feedback or squeal in my talkback. unless i turn the mic gain way down from where it used to be set. for some reason this mic dosen't seem to agree with this radio. as to who did the...
the radio... uniden pc 78. had the final changed talkback added had super mod installed. good sounding strong radio. now this work was done using the stock uniden mic. this morning the stock mic died. so i stopped at a truck stop and bought a cobra ca73 dynamic mic to work untill i got home...
ok everyone as i promised i finally finished my unscientific test of these two antenna's. basically the same length antenna except' the radio shack all terrain has a smaller base load. since the meter said the wilson was at 1.2 swr i adjusted the radio shack antenna as close as possible to...
around 20 years ago i had a 510 hooked to to a 250 texas star along with some 4 foot no-name fiberglass whip. never had a bad report on it' and actually was asked many times what i was running because they thought it sounded very good.
I see a lot of the older cb radios on ebay. if i were to want to buy one of these be it a 23 or 40 channel' what were the better radios from the past??
that was pretty much how i was going to do my test. there is a section of straight with nothing on it highway not far from me. i am going to stop at a mile marker and let my son drive on talking to me on the r/s antenna. when i can no longer hear him i'll call him on the phone and have him...
well everyone' just to let ya'll know that you talked me into stopping and buying one of these r/s antennas tonight. this weekend when i get a chance i'll attach it to my magnet mount and tune it. if i can get a respectable swr then i'll decide if i want to leave it magnet mounted or drill a...
I guess what i've come to realize from this shade tree test and reading replies like yours is that' basically with a bare foot radio as long as you get an antenna that is close to identical in length and build as this r/s and 5000 are you are not going to see much differance in performance.
well i'm still going to do one more test this weekend just to try to answer one question i have. but after reading these answers' it almost sounds like this radio shack antenna might be the buy of the week for what it costs vs, the performance it gives.
well i would have thought so' but my little informal test last night didn't bear this out. i mean we always hear that you get what you pay for. and a good antenna is the most important part of a cb radio. i'm determined to do some more testing next weekend' but right now i'm still...
